Chapter 5 The Golden Body Arhat

Are the flags moving or the wind moving?

The old monks in the temple are all eminent monks who are in charge, and the rest are elites from various temples. When I heard this question, I immediately realized the key to this issue.

It is wrong to say that the wind is moving, because the flag is indeed moving. It is also wrong to say that the flag is moving, because it is fluttered by the wind.

The answer seemed to be wrong no matter how I said it. For a while, everyone was lost in thought and couldn't think of an answer.

Wang Sheng had calmed down. He clasped his hands and lowered his head as if to give the eminent monks time to think.

But he is very proud in his heart, so just think about it hard! Let you embarrass me.

In fact, it is not difficult to answer this question, but what is difficult is that you must see the trap of this question. He asked whether the wind is moving or the flag is moving. Most people will definitely think about which movement is more qualified.

But they will not think that what this question requires is actually to create an answer by themselves. The answer is not one of the wind and the flag, but their own heart.

It’s your own heart that’s moving! According to Buddhist principles, there is no better answer than this.

After a while, no one answered. The young monks in the temple looked at Wang Sheng with very surprised eyes. They did not expect that their master would be troubled by this young monk. It seemed that he had some clues!

Finally, a senior monk shook his head and clasped his hands together and said: "Amitabha, does the wind move or the flags move? This question is really difficult to answer. I can't answer the question in a short time. I'm afraid I need my nephew to solve the problem."

"Indeed, the poor monk is also puzzled." Another old monk said.

Wang Sheng was delighted. He found that as the old monk spoke, most of the monks in the temple looked at him and seemed to have given up thinking. There were many abbots from various temples among them.

He was feeling proud, but at this moment someone spoke.

"The young monk knows, it's his heart that's moving." The voice was thick and powerful, and it sounded right next to him.

All the monks in the hall, including Wang Sheng, turned around in surprise and found that the person speaking was actually his senior brother Hongren.

At this moment, Hong Ren had a look of enlightenment on his face, and it seemed that he had an idea when he came up with this answer.

"It's not the wind that's moving, nor the flags that are moving, but our minds are confused and everything in the world is moving."

Wang Sheng was surprised. Hongren was indeed worthy of the fifth ancestor of Zen Buddhism. His IQ and reaction speed were indeed impressive.

The eminent monks in the hall, including the head of the Tiantai Sect, also understood instantly, and then they were so impressed that the answer was indeed impeccable and exquisite.

It is not the wind that is moving, nor the wind flags that are moving, but the heart that is moving, then everything in the world is moving. Everyone looks at Hong Ren with admiration on their faces. He is indeed a master of Zen Buddhism.

Wang Sheng was depressed. He was about to succeed, but his senior brother intercepted him halfway.

"Amitabha, Zen Buddhism is really thoughtful and eloquent." The leader of the Tiantai Sect clasped his hands together and said in a low voice. Based on the answer, he had already realized the trap of this question.

Lingsi was praising Hongren's thinking speed, while Shanguan was saying that Wang Sheng was tricky in asking questions, but it sounded more like ridicule.

Wang Sheng was puzzled, why did this old monk target him everywhere? Could it be that he was implicated in his enmity with the Zen sect?

"I wonder if my nephew Hongren thinks the same as my nephew, and my nephew's thoughts on the Buddha's heart have not yet been clearly expressed, so I would like to ask my nephew to continue." The abbot of the Tiantan Sect continued to speak, and the eminent monks in the hall also looked at him.

Although the question just asked is subtle and novel enough, it is inevitably a bit opportunistic for Wang Sheng to pass the test and become a Buddhist disciple.

At this juncture, Wang Sheng naturally would not back down. He calmly said: "Uncle Master is right. The young monk also thought hard before he suddenly realized that it is our hearts that are moving, and that is why we see everything moving.

The young monk was suddenly inspired to compose a verse, which I recite here. I hope all of you, uncles and brothers, will appreciate it."

Verse? After asking before, all the abbots and monks in the temple all looked at Wang Shengsheng, curious about what kind of verse he could make.

"Master Nephew, come and sing to your heart's content." the Tiantai Sect host said.

Wang Sheng nodded, "This verse is like this."

He began to shake his head, "The body is like a bodhi tree, and the mind is like a mirror."

After reading these two sentences, some eminent monks' eyes lit up.

Wang Sheng paused for a moment and continued: "Brush it frequently to avoid dust."

After the words fell, the hall fell silent, and no one opened their mouths to speak for a moment.

Wipe it frequently to avoid dust!

In front of the Buddha statue, Daoxin and Hongren both had their eyes lit up. Regardless of the question about the wind blowing and the flags just now, the current verse is obviously full of Zen flavor.

Think of yourself as the bodhi tree, a sacred object in Buddhism, and your heart as a bright mirror. You need to wipe it from time to time to keep it free of dust and maintain a crystal-clear Zen mind.

The monks thought carefully about it, and after a while, one person broke the silence.

"Amitabha, your heart is like a mirror, don't let any dust gather in your heart! This verse of the Zen master's nephew is really profound, and the poor monk is amazed." It was the Tantric abbot who spoke. His face was full of sighs at this time, as if he had some understanding.

Wang Sheng was a little surprised. Hadn't this old monk been trying to squeeze him out with the old monk from the Tiantai Sect before? Why did he suddenly change his attitude?

At the beginning of the tantric abbot's speech, all the monks in the hall praised him one after another, especially the junior monks who were originally dissatisfied. It was not until Wang Sheng's verse came out that they truly began to admit that Wang Sheng did have the bones of the Buddha and had become a son of the Buddha.

Qualifications.

The head of the Tiantai Sect had complicated eyes, "My nephew, this verse is really wonderful. I wonder if my nephew has anything to add."

Of course! Now that he has started pretending to compete, Wang Sheng has to finish pretending to be happy!

He smiled slightly, clasped his hands together and said loudly: "It seems that all the masters and uncles think that Xiao Monk's verse is quite acceptable." Then he shook his head and said, "Xiao Monk thought so too at first."

At first? The monks looked at each other strangely. What did this guy mean? Do you think this verse is not good enough now?

Having whetted his appetite, Wang Sheng stopped talking and shook his head again, "After this verse came out, the young monk thought it was pretty good for a while. But after one night, when the young monk thought about it carefully, he felt more and more that there was something wrong with this verse.

, finally by chance, the young monk suddenly understood another verse."

There is another song? All the abbots are not surprised. This song is good enough, and where is the problem?

Wang Sheng seemed to know what everyone was thinking, so he stopped delaying and read directly: "Bodhi has no tree, and a bright mirror is not a stand," he said slowly.

Everyone's eyes widened. These two sentences were slightly different from before, but they sounded completely different.

"There is nothing in the first place, so where is the dust?" Wang Sheng read out completely.

Like a heavy hammer hitting his heart, the hall was quiet again, but unlike last time, the atmosphere was unreasonably heavy, and Wang Sheng felt an obvious sense of oppression coming from him.

This gatha written by the Sixth Patriarch Huineng shocked everyone for a moment, fell deeply into realization, and could not control their breath for a while.

Wang Sheng saw that everyone was closing their eyes and reciting this gatha silently, and even his senior brother Hong Ren kept mumbling, and seemed to have gained a lot.

For a long moment, no one spoke. Wang Sheng was a little nervous for a moment. What the hell is this? Isn't it just a gatha in the fog? Why did everyone react so loudly?

At this moment, a bright light suddenly shone before his eyes, and a ball of golden light rose up and floated to the center of the hall, illuminating the entire main hall, and at the same time, a Buddha's name came into his ears.

"Amitabha, Amitabha! There is nothing in the first place, so how can I cause dust! I am so obsessed with it, so obsessed with it!"

Wang Sheng fell into a daze because the voice clearly belonged to his master, Daoxin.

"Golden Arhat! Amitabha, senior brother, you have such good merits and good opportunities." The leader of the Tiantai Sect shouted in shock.

Everyone in the hall woke up and opened their mouths in shock when they saw the golden light. Monk Daoxin actually had an epiphany and achieved a golden body!

This is so lucky! What is the difference between this and becoming a Buddha immediately?

All the hosts were envious, and even felt that their minds were a little unstable. They had been stuck in the golden elixir realm for many years and could not break through. Unexpectedly, Dao Xin suddenly had an epiphany.

They unconsciously clasped their hands together and chanted Amitabha, but no matter what, the shock in their hearts could not be eliminated, golden Arhat! This is the realm they dream of.

The golden body of Arhat! It is equivalent to the immortal realm of Taoism.

Wang Sheng was stunned. Could it be that the Sixth Patriarch Huineng's verse made Master's merits perfect?

The golden light dissipated, and the much younger Daoxin floated down with an indifferent expression.

He clasped his hands together and said, "Brothers, there is no need to be envious. I am just one step ahead."

The abbots and abbots felt uncomfortable in their hearts, so they just listened to these words. This was an opportunity that they never dared to think of.

"Amitabha, Amitabha, congratulations to my senior brother for ascending to the state of bliss and being able to listen to the true meaning of my Buddha." It was still the head of the Tiantai Sect who was the first to congratulate him. His expression was joyful and full of sincerity.

As soon as he opened his mouth, all the eminent monks, whether they were really happy or secretly jealous, couldn't help but congratulate Daoxin on achieving the golden body.
