50. Remuneration

The meal was not pleasant, and Merlin had expected it.
Although Elliot Randolph carefully prepared a lot of food and also tried to decorate his banquet hall in Asgardian style, even the lights were removed, and burning braziers were replaced with some Asgardian style murals around the banquet hall, this did not extinguish the disappointment and anger in his son's heart.
The two had a big quarrel almost since they met, and even had to clench their fists and fight each other for a while.
But in the end, their argument still did not affect Merlin and the Dwarf Vostager's supper.
"They're really arguing."
Merlin reached out and took a large piece of barbecue with bones from the plate in front of her. While cutting off the meat with a dining knife, she listened to the disputes and yells coming from the upstairs.
And in front of him, the dwarf who was biting the flesh at a very fast speed was stuffed with things, he said vaguely:
"It's okay, this is how the Asgardians get along with each other the more fiercely they argue, the more they mean the problem is about to be resolved."
The dwarf shook his head and threw the bones in his hand aside, picked up another perfectly baked chicken leg. The spice-spreaded chicken leg turned around in his mouth, and only the chicken bones were left.
"Furo"
Vostag let out a comfortable moan, and he grabbed the wooden wine glass and drank the honey-smelling wine inside.
"Bang"
The dwarf slammed the wine glass on the table and shouted:
"This is the real honey wine! Old Randolph looks like a winemaker, hell, this thing must have been hidden for hundreds of years, this is the best thing I have ever drunk this year!"
"One more drink!"
He slapped the table and shouted.
Soon, a servant brought a full glass of honey wine again, and removed the already eaten barbecue plates, and brought new food.
Well, Dr. Randolph still seemed to be very familiar with the Asgardians' appetite. Outside the house, there were seven chefs who were still roasting meat constantly, which was barely as fast as Merlin and the Dwarfs had eaten.
Of course, most of the food is killed by dwarves.
His stomach was like a bottomless pit.
"Speaking of this, you are also a soldier."
Merlin gracefully inserted a piece of meat with a fork and put it into his mouth. While chewing, he said to the dwarf general in front of him:
"Do you have no disgust towards Randolph? He is indeed a deserter after all."
"Disgusting? No, no, no at all."
Vostag touched his greasy beard and muttered:
"He was the commander of the Furious Warrior Legion back then, and was my senior. My family was a military family in Asgard. I knew very well what it meant to be a Furious Warrior, and I also knew very well what happened to Old Randolph back then. It was already a miracle that he could survive."
The dwarf said:
"The Furious Warriors' Legion, who was the vanguard of resisting the invasion in Midgart, was wiped out, but they bought enough time for the assembly of the Golden Palace guards and completely reversed the situation. They did not lose their glory."
"What's more, Old Randolph left after the war. He was not a deserter at most, and he gave up his duties, but his companions were all dead, and no one could blame him."
Vostag picked up a grilled fish, he sniffed it, then put the whole fish into his mouth, and said to Merlin:
"We Asgardians worship glory, but we are not rigid."
"All right."
Merlin listened, and the quarrels upstairs became weaker, which seemed to prove that the father and son might have reached a reconciliation.
He looked at the dwarf again and asked:
"Let me talk about Asgard, I'm very interested in your world."
"Ah, tell a story, I like it."
The dwarf took a sip of wine and said:
"What do you want to hear? Wat Alheim's forging factory? Or Musbelheim's eternal sea? Or the mighty and brilliant Golden Palace? Or the treasure of the king with endless wealth?"
"Tell me some current affairs."
Merlin picked up the wine glass and raised it to the dwarf, and he said:
"I'm not very interested in history. Is there anything worth noting in your world lately?"
"Well, it doesn't seem to be a big deal."
The dwarf said:
"After defeated Thor, the Frost Giant, who was immortal in his heart, was still thinking of crossing the border and robbing him, but Sif's army was guarding the border, so she would not give those Frost Giants any chance."
"The dark elves in Yalfheim have been a little restless recently, but this is something that is common. Those bastards who worship evil gods will not be too calm at this time every year, but Hogan's team is ready to defend themselves. They seem to be planning to enter the underground this year and take the initiative to attack the black-skinned elves."
"Loki, who is not popular, has arranged a few new scenes, all for women and sissies. I am not interested at all, but the citizens of Asgard like it very much."
"Oh, by the way, Queen Friga wanted Thor and Sif to get engaged, but neither of them wanted them to be more like comrades than couples."
The dwarf shrugged, he said:
"Sif is a good warrior, but to be honest, I can't imagine her wearing a wedding dress."
"Sif Thor"
Merlin shook his head, he took a sip of wine and said with a smile:
"It's quite interesting. Those characters in our world myths are spoken out in such a relaxed and ordinary tone, just like you accidentally met Thor when you went out to buy vegetables."
"Ha ha."
The dwarf laughed, and he said to Merlin:
"You call us 'Gods', but we know we are not, we are just a group of aliens who are different from you. However, Asgard really has the concept of divine power, but how to say that those things are too far away for us young people."
Vostag bit a piece of beef, he said:
"Of course of us, only Thor is the only one who has the potential to gain real divine power in the future, just like his father Odin, to become the real Thor."
"Divine Power?"
Meilin became interested, so he put down the knife in his hand and asked curiously:
"Tell me in detail whether this is a power like a god? Or is it a name for power?"
“All.”
The dwarf didn't seem to think it was a secret, he said to Merlin casually:
"The Asgardians are creatures with a high degree of unity of spirit and body. Our power on the spiritual level can affect our own existence. The Berserker is a very clear example. As long as the spiritual will is strong enough, it will be difficult for us to be defeated on the battlefield."
"And divine power is the more advanced embodiment of this apparent willpower."
"Let me give an example."
The dwarf plated a pie with cherries and strawberries, and said while eating the sour and sweet thing:
"Odin, the great Odin was a warrior when he was young. Apart from the control of lightning and lightning included in his bloodline, he did not know any magic, just like Thor now. But after Odin passed the trial of the intelligent giant Yumire, he obtained his own divine power, and the lightning he controlled became even more terrifying, as if he had his own consciousness."
"Of course, this is also related to Gangnir, the Gun of Judgment, but it is more because of Odin's divine power."
"He learned a lot of magic without a teacher, and he could use divine words as in the legend. The divine words are powerful. Among the nine kingdoms, no one can resist Odin's divine words. He said that someone's power will be lost, and then the next moment, that person will become extremely weak. He said that someone will win glory, and that person will enter the Temple of Valhalla after his death."
The dwarf Vostag said in a voice of awe:
"That is the real power of the gods, which is higher than the power we use, and is more difficult to understand and understand. However, people like Odin, who hold divine power, are rare in the entire history of Asgard. They have either died in time or disappeared. The only people who still exist in the present are Odin."
"But Thor will definitely be the second one!"
The dwarf said with confidence:
"Thor's talent is as powerful as his father, much more powerful than his incompetent brother. I also heard that Loki seemed to be seeking divine power, but he certainly would not succeed, hehe, everyone thinks so."
"It sounds like Thor is your friend, and Loki is your enemy?"
Merlin slowly digested the secrets that the dwarf told him, and he said while drinking:
"Why do you hate Loki so much? Is he a bad guy? He is a stingy heart?"
"Not really."
The dwarf said frankly:
"It's just that Loki always likes to play tricks. He has learned magic from Queen Friga since he was a child. He is Asgard's leading magic master. However, his fighting style is not honorable at all. He also likes to play a lot of pranks. Moreover, he is very jealous of Thor, but Thor cares about him and protects him all the time."
Vostag glanced at Merlin and said:
"Loki is just like you agents, and she always likes to ask questions in everything. Of course, I don't hate you, friend Merlin, you have proved your courage in the battle against the Kerry people. Not everyone can do it alone!"
The dwarf picked up the wine glass and said to Merlin:
"You are a warrior with wisdom and strength. Maybe you can enter the Valhalla in the future."
"It sounds like a curse man goes to hell."
Merlin knew what the Valhalla represented in the Asgardian culture, shook his head, made a joke, and then stood up and clinked with the dwarf's wine glass, he said:
"I wish you everlasting your glory, my friend of Asgard."
"And, I wish you to acquire your own divine power as soon as possible. You seem to envy that power."
"Bang"
The two wine glasses clinked together, and the banquet continued in the aroma of honey wine.
The next morning, Merlin and Old Randolph stood outside the manor, watching the drunken Vostag and Skolch disappear in the light of the Rainbow Bridge.
Merlin tilted his head and looked at the old Randolph beside him, and he asked:
"Don't he stay? Didn't you settle last night?"
"Just a preliminary settlement."
The old man sighed silently, and he said:
"My son is still resenting me for abandoning him and his mother. He doesn't even want to call me a father, but he agrees that he will occasionally come to see me, a lonely old man. I think this probably shows that there is hope for a resolution in this matter."
"Well, then you have to be careful."
Merlin said with malicious intentions:
"Next time I'm away, be careful that your son comes to you with an axe."
"hehe."
Old Randolph smiled disdainfully, and he said:
"I wouldn't be afraid even if he comes with Mjolnil or Gangnil."
The old man looked at the dissipating light in the sky, sighed, turned around, and handed something to Merlin.
"We agreed to pay, please take it."
"What's this?"
Merlin looked at the uncharacteristic pebbles in his hand, and he suspected that this thing was picked up by Randolph in the garden to fool him.
“This is a pointer.”
Randolph pointed to the north with a mysterious face, and he said:
"On the next full moon night, if you put it in the moonlight, it will guide you to the sealed land. It was an ancient battlefield hundreds of years ago, and it should have sunk under the sea now. In short, when you find it, you will know what I will pay you."
"But remember, Merlin."
Randolph lowered his voice and said to Merlin:
"Don't be greedy! Don't destroy it, just take one piece and leave."
"Then keep this secret in your heart forever and don't tell anyone."
"I have to warn you in advance that once you break that seal, you will become a serious prisoner in the eyes of all Asgard warriors, and may even attract Heimdal's personal pursuit."
"So, what exactly is it?"
Merlin looked at the pebbles in his hand and said:
"Don't make it so mysterious."
After Merlin's questioning, Randolph thought for a while and said:
"You have read Nordic myths, and I mean, do you know the old stories that happened on that land?"
"Um."
Merlin nodded and said:
"There are complete Nordic myths, and other ancient poems in the wizards' library, which I've read, and then what?"
"Do you know the story of Beowulf's dragon slaughter?"
"Yeah, I know."
"Very good, that's the answer."
Randolph said in a whispering voice:
"With the help of the young Thor, the dragon defeated by Beowulf"
