Chapter 566 Paramount Project

Steven Spielberg welcomes a heavyweight visitor at DreamWorks headquarters in Glendale, California.

Paramount Pictures CEO, Sherry Lansing, the most famous female powerhouse in Hollywood, came to DreamWorks headquarters in person to visit old friend Spielberg.

But the atmosphere in the office is definitely not friendly, and it is even a bit tense.

Shirley Lansing kept smiling: "Steven, how are you thinking?"

Spielberg vaguely said: "I haven't considered it yet."

Shirley Lansing seems relaxed, but in fact he is under great pressure. Last year, Paramount Pictures ranked last among the six Hollywood performances, and even Sony Columbia, which has always been the rear of the crane, steadily surpassed Paramount Pictures, which made the parent company Viacom very dissatisfied.

This really embarrassed her, the head of Paramount Pictures.

Shirley Lansing is not the kind of woman who will be easily defeated. She quickly analyzed the operating conditions of Paramount Pictures in 2003. The online and offline distribution and peripheral operations are not bad. The biggest problem lies in the content production.

There are no outstanding film and television works, and there is no room for operation in the distribution and surrounding areas.

Paramount Pictures invested heavily in the production of Tomb Raider 2 and Memory Rift both failed miserably. The most successful film was "Stealing the Sky and Change the Sun", which could not even squeeze into the top ten of the North American box office rankings in 2003.

Looking back, Shirley Lansing made a thrilling discovery that Paramount Pictures has no commercial series that can cause strong market responses except for the Mission: Impossible series.

Moreover, the copyright of the Mission: Impossible series is shared with Tom Cruise...

The problem is clear at a glance. Paramount Pictures lacks market-oriented works in film and television production.

Shirley Lansing has been doing corresponding work since last year, and there were problems with content production. Paramount Pictures increased its efforts to find new projects on the one hand, but lacked excellent producers and collaborators, and it was difficult to solve it in the short term.

On the other hand, it is solved from the outside. The solution is very simple. Find a suitable production company and let them provide content.

The six major companies of the same level don’t have to think about it. They can’t give their own videos to Paramount for distribution, so the medium-sized production companies controlled by the six major companies naturally don’t have to consider them.

Shirley Lansing's eyes naturally bet on two companies - DreamWorks and Relativity Entertainment.

The latter has concentrated equity and is not easy to talk, and Shirley Lansing only knows Ronan at best, but doesn't know much about him.

Therefore, killing old customers is the most convenient.

The six major companies also have a speechless tacit understanding, and suppressing DreamWorks is in their own interests.

"Steven, we are old friends for 20 years, and I am also helping you." Shirley Lansing said with a smile: "How much money and personnel are invested in DreamWorks overseas distribution channels? What's the result? It not only affects your distribution channels in North America, but also begins to drag down the film and television production business."

These are the real situation of DreamWorks, and Spielberg did not refute it.

Shirley Lansing said again: "Leaving the distribution to Paramount, DreamWorks can save a lot of resources and invest in the film and television production you are best at, and bring more outstanding film works to the world to the audience."

Spielberg held up his glasses and looked deep in Shirley Lansing's eyes, and he had never been cold before.

An old friend of twenty years has been here, but he chose to come here at this time to make trouble.

Spielberg would not have such an idea if he just proposed to hand over the release of DreamWorks movies to Paramount Pictures. But after the New Year, a group of people in DreamWorks distribution department resigned and joined Universal Pictures, and Shirley Lansing came to him again.

It was as if there was a speechless tacit understanding between them.

But the real problem is here, and Spielberg cannot turn a blind eye to it and said, "Sherley, I'm thinking about it for a while."

For the time being, I can only drag it.

After all, it was Spielberg, and Shirley Lansing was not too forced, and said, "Steven, Paramount Pictures and I are looking forward to working with you again."

Spielberg smiled: "Believe that I will work with Paramount again."

He emphasized the personal as a director, not the owner of DreamWorks.

Shirley Lansing could understand the meaning and said, "Steven, I understand the situation of DreamWorks. I will say a few words as a friend. Taking advantage of DreamWorks that there is enough value, and strive for more conditions."

Spielberg's attitude suddenly became tougher: "Sherry, DreamWorks will not go bankrupt."

Shirley Lansing smiled and said, "Of course not. As long as you are there, DreamWorks will always have hope." She suddenly mentioned another thing: "Steven, I will send a team here to talk to you about the release of World Wars."

The science fiction blockbuster "World War" starring Tom Cruise, Spielberg was forced to hand it over to Paramount Pictures for release as early as the project was launched.

Spielberg wanted to go back on his word, but after thinking about it, he decided to keep his promise, but he was determined to win the best release conditions for DreamWorks and said, "I will participate in this release negotiation in person."

Shirley Lansing nodded and said, "I won't disturb you anymore. Goodbye, Steven."

Spielberg couldn't help but feel a little headache when he saw Shirley Lansing away. When he met Tom Hanks and talked about "The Da Vinci Code", he told his old friend about the distribution dilemma of DreamWorks. The actual situation was even more serious than he said. Especially after the publisher was poached, it had affected the release of DreamWorks in North America.

After ten years of hard work, DreamWorks has not only not developed into a top entertainment group as expected, but has become increasingly difficult.

Spielberg stood in front of the office window and looked down, and the car Shirley Lanxi was riding in was heading towards the gate of DreamWorks Park.

Is DreamWorks really going to hand over the films they produce to Paramount to release? Sign a long-term distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures?

Thinking of this, Spielberg shook his head slowly and firmly.

Tom Hanks is right. Once the distribution capability is lost, DreamWorks will soon become a plaything for the six major companies.

The distribution channel has stuck DreamWorks' throat!

Spielberg is more determined and must find a way to solve the issue.

A black business sedan drove out of the DreamWorks gate. Shirley Lansing looked back and saw that DreamWorks was in poor condition recently. As long as the issue of distribution was not solved, it would not take long to become a production company.

Paramount Pictures needs production companies, especially those with outstanding performance.

Thinking of this, Shirley Lansing asked the assistant in the co-pilot: "I'll let you pay attention to Ronan Anderson and Relativity Entertainment. Is there something special there recently?"

The assistant quickly said: "There has been a hot topic in Relativity Entertainment recently. They competed with Lion Gate Pictures to acquire Yijiang Pictures."

Shirley Lansing raised her eyebrows: "Acquiring Yijiang Film?"

"Yes, the news has been made public for a few days." The assistant quickly introduced: "Last year, there was a related news that the shareholders of Yijiang Film Company were preparing to package the company for sale. Relativity Entertainment had secretly contacted them some time ago and wanted to acquire it with full capital. However, Yijiang Film Company made the news public and Lion Gate Film Company also joined in. Now the two companies are bidding for Yijiang Film Company."

Shirley Lansing seemed to be talking to herself: "What does Relativity Entertainment acquire Yijiang Film Industry for? Shahai Entertainment has extremely strong production capabilities, and the distribution capabilities of Embassy Film Industry are no worse than Paramount..."

The assistant whispered: "Relativity Entertainment has no film library."

Shirley Lansing understood: "Ronan Anderson is very ambitious."

The assistant said: "Relativity Entertainment has developed rapidly in recent years, much faster than DreamWorks."

"This is a very good company." Shirley Lansing thought of something: "It's a pity that the background is much worse."

The assistant responded: "With the film library, the gap in the background will be smaller."

Shirley Lansing certainly understood this truth and sat here expressionlessly, as if thinking about things.

Relativity Entertainment has risen too quickly. In the past, even now, more attention has been focused on DreamWorks. When I pay attention to Relativity Entertainment, I found that it was a behemoth no less than DreamWorks.

If there is a film library, it will be more confident in entertainment.

When Shirley Lansing thought of Paramount’s weakest production link now, he recalled the big-selling movies produced by Relativity Entertainment last year, and suddenly had an idea.

If Paramount Pictures could swallow DreamWorks and Relativity Entertainment, would it become Hollywood's top company?

Shirley Lansing has never considered the issue of not being able to eat, because there are only two new companies in Hollywood that have emerged in the past, bankruptcy or become part of the top six.

Relativity Entertainment has expanded too quickly, and winning the film library means having a stable source of copyright revenue, which is definitely not conducive to acquisition.

Shirley Lansing quickly had an idea that he could not let Relativity Entertainment swallow up Yijiang Film Industry.

This is also in the interests of the group company Viacom. Netflix, a subsidiary of Relativity Entertainment, and Pepsik, a subsidiary of Viacom, are in full swing in the rental market.

But then there was a headache. Relativity Entertainment's equity concentration and acquisition differentiation were not useful at all.

Then find some trouble for Relativity Entertainment as soon as possible so that they cannot concentrate on acquiring Yijiang Film Industry.

After making the decision, Shirley Lansing thought for a while and said to the driver: "Go to Viacom headquarters." She said to her assistant again: "Call Mr. Leistone's assistant, I want to meet Mr. Leistone today."

After the assistant finished calling and agreed to meet, Shirley Lansing said: "Call Relativity Entertainment, I want to see Ronan Anderson tomorrow."

When he arrived at Viacom's headquarters, Shirley Lansing directly found Summer Redstone and explained his thoughts.
