Chapter VII Conversation with Louis Napoleon

Due to the constraints of scientific and technological factors in the 19th century, doctors Jérôme and James were unable to produce physiological saline for medical use like that of later generations. They could only choose the oldest method of distilling 500 ml of high-temperature sterilized water and adding it to the water that had already evaporated.

The well salt crystals that have been concentrated three or four times are mixed at a ratio of 1 to 0.009, and a semi-finished physiological saline is completed.

Physiological saline was injected intravenously into Louis Bonaparte's body by Dr. James. Louis Bonaparte's severely dehydrated body barely regained a trace of blood.

"Your Majesty, drink this!" Dr. James brought a bowl of viscous and slightly forgiving liquid to Louis Bonaparte's mouth.

The liquid is made from willow bark mixed with some things that even Jerome doesn't know. It is said to have analgesic and gastrointestinal effects. The salicylic acid contained in the juice made from willow bark can relieve Louis' pain.

.Bonaparte's Fever.

Louis Bonaparte reluctantly opened his mouth, and the steaming green juice poured into Louis Bonaparte's mouth.

Perhaps because the taste of the juice itself was too anti-human, Louis Bonaparte obviously vomited it out the moment he drank it. Upon seeing this, Dr. James quickly weighed out the towel placed in the copper hot water basin under the pillar bed.

After drying, place it gently on Louis Bonaparte's mouth to prevent Louis Bonaparte from vomiting all over the floor.

By reviewing the information on cholera in Britain more than ten years ago, Dr. James can roughly determine that the transmission route of cholera is food and water. As long as the transmission route and source of the cholera virus are strictly controlled, cholera can be prevented. Those old stubborns at the Royal College of Medicine

The methods they keep advocating for ventilation simply don’t work!

Louis Bonaparte's Adam's apple slowly moved, and he swallowed Dr. James' medicine with difficulty.

Dr. James slowly took the towel away from Louis Bonaparte's mouth and folded it. After Dr. James folded the rectangular towel into the shape of a tofu block, Dr. James handed the towel to Jerome and said: "This towel

It can no longer be used if it is contaminated with the patient's body fluids, just burn it!"

Jérôme nodded as he took the towel. No one understood the dangers of cholera virus better than him.

The reason why the cholera virus occurs in slums and rarely in rich areas is that the poor cannot afford a doctor, and there is also a lack of correct understanding of cholera. People often have close relationships with cholera patients even after they get it.

Exposure to cholera will lead to a person contracting cholera and the whole family will die.

Random burning behavior like Jérôme's was absolutely unacceptable to ordinary working-class people. Those workers who had to wear two pairs of pants together did not have so much money on weekdays, let alone 1848, when the economic crisis had not yet recovered.

.

Jérôme placed the towel that might have been contaminated with cholera virus in the brazier next to the fireplace in the living room on the first floor. He took the flints placed on the fireplace and the kerosene-stained cotton in his hands. The flints rubbed against the fireplace to produce

The sparks ignited the collodion, and the flame of the inner blue and outer fire was held by Jérôme and thrown into the brazier. The towel in the basin was ignited.

Along with the production of thick black smoke, a pungent smell of burnt wool poured into Jerome's breath.

Persili and Fleury, who were still on the first floor, saw this and hurriedly opened the doors and windows to ventilate. After doing all this, Jerome returned to the second floor again, and Persili followed closely behind.

At this time, Dr. James had packed up all his things and was preparing to leave with a small wooden box in his arms.

Before leaving, Dr. James did not forget to ask Louis Bonaparte to relax, and at the same time asked Jérôme and Howard to be careful.

"Persili, send me a doctor!" Louis Bonaparte, who looked better than before, said to Persili.

"Your Majesty!" Pescily bowed to Louis Bonaparte and accepted his command.

After Dr. James and Persili left, only Louis Bonaparte, Jérôme Bonaparte and Howard were left in the room.

The scene fell into dead silence for a while. After a short silence, Louis Bonaparte, who had regained his energy a little, said to Howard in a hoarse voice: "Dear Howard, can you fulfill one of my requests?"

"Louis, say it!" Howard held Louis Bonaparte's hand and said affectionately.

"Can you please buy me a newspaper? I haven't had one for a long time!" Louis Bonaparte begged Howard.

"Louis, I promise you!" Howard immediately agreed to Louis Bonaparte's request.

Louis Bonaparte smiled, and he named several newspapers in one breath, such as The Times, Polaris Zeitung, Rheinland Zeitung [Note 1]...

After Howard wrote down the newspaper that Louis Bonaparte mentioned, he once again told Louis Bonaparte to recover well in a doctor's tone, and then left to help Louis Bonaparte buy newspapers.

Only two cousins, Louis Bonaparte and Jérôme Bonaparte, were left in the room.

Just when Jerome didn't know how to speak, Louis Bonaparte's voice came to his ears: "Howard is such a smart girl!"

"Huh?" Jérôme Bonaparte was a little confused about what Louis Bonaparte meant.

"My dear cousin, you don't really think that I asked her to go out to buy newspapers!" Louis Bonaparte said to Jérôme with a smile in his hoarse throat.

Only then did Jérôme react and said: "Cousin, do you want to get rid of her?"

"That's right!" Louis Bonaparte nodded, and then sighed: "I said Howard is a smart lady! I don't want her to get involved in our business! To the family, she has always been an outsider.

!Especially after my death, I am really afraid of her..."

"Don't worry, cousin! The family can't cause trouble for her!" Jérôme comforted Louis Bonaparte.

"I hope I'm overthinking it!" Louis Bonaparte showed a mocking look: "My uncles really don't let me worry!"

Then, he paused and added: "Of course, except for Uncle Jerome. I am very grateful and miss Uncle Jerome!"

I think you miss my sister!

Jérôme added silently in his heart, while still saying with a respectful expression on his face: "My father also misses you very much...and of course, my sister!"

"Matilde, my God!"

ps: 1. "Polar Star" is a British Chartist organ and a left-wing ideological newspaper. Marx once published an article in "Polar Star" after he was sent out of the country as a gift from Prussia.

"Rheinland Zeitung" was a newspaper founded by Marx during his time in the Rhineland. The newspaper did not last long before it was banned by Prussia. The contents of the newspaper were once reprinted in the "Polar Star" and published in Britain.
