Now that the battle plan has been finalized, various preparations before the war have begun to proceed step by step.
The first step was to deploy various troops and generals. In order to prevent the Vietnamese army from detecting any major moves by our army and prepare in advance, these troop deployments were all carried out secretly.
The troops on the front line implement the principle of not moving if they can... This is done firstly because they do not want the Vietnamese army to find out that our army is moving troops, and secondly because the frontline troops have experience in attacking the Banwang area. For the terrain in the Banwang area,
The terrain is relatively familiar. This is the third one... It is precisely because these troops have attacked Banwang and suffered a large number of casualties in Banwang that they have a deep-rooted hatred for the Vietnamese army... There is no doubt that this hatred will once
It's quite useful when it comes to fighting.
Therefore, the two regiments arranged in front of Highland 481 and Highland 544 for feint attack, or it can be said that the feint attack will turn into a real attack at any time, are the current 505 regiment and another regiment that once attacked Banwang and suffered too many casualties.
The two regiments of the 493rd Regiment, which had retreated to the second line for rest and recuperation, were in charge.
Of course, the 493rd Regiment did not immediately mobilize them, but let them continue to rest and conduct targeted combat training.
Another infantry regiment is the 471st Regiment in the direction of Aidian. There is a special high mountain in Aidian, with an altitude of 1,300 meters. The locals call it "Gongmu Mountain", and the reason for this name is actually the same as
Like the Ban Wang area, this mountain is also relatively gentle in the direction of Vietnam and steeper in the direction of China.
But luckily... our army has established a firm foothold on this mountain and controls the important commanding heights - Qingcao Ridge, located halfway up Gongmu Mountain, which is Highland 540.
From this point of view, sometimes in military terms, higher is not more important... For example, the main peak of Gongmu Mountain is 1,300 meters, but because it is far from the highway exit and there are blind spots everywhere, the main peak is
It no longer has much military value. Instead, Highland 540 is directly stuck at the highway intersection. The highway can be clearly observed and controlled, so it becomes a battleground for military strategists.
There is no doubt that Qingcaoling, the 540th Highland, is in the hands of our army. This is why I chose Aidian as the breakthrough point.
So the three infantry regiments, in the order of 481 Highland, 544 Highland and Aidian, were in charge of the 505th Regiment, the 493rd Regiment and the 471st Regiment respectively. Among them, the 493th Regiment was still seizing the time to rest and recuperate on the second line, and would only be ordered to fight on the day of the war.
Ordered to enter the war zone that night.
As for the artillery... what I know is that two artillery regiments are deployed on the left and right sides of the Banwang area.
Regarding this kind of arrangement... I have learned about artillery tactics and I understand: artillery also pays attention to cross-fire. In fact, the principle is very simple. It is the same two artillery regiments. If these two artillery regiments are all piled up in Banwang
The front... The result is that most of the artillery shells will be blocked by Banwang's high ground, that is, they can only hit the front slopes of Highland 481 and Highland 544... After that, a large blind spot will appear.
On the contrary, if the two artillery regiments are separated and deployed one on the left and one on the right in the Banwang area... then not only can they hit the front of the highlands in the Banwang area, but they can also control the rear of the highlands from the sides and from the gaps between the highlands.
...so as to achieve the purpose of reducing the blind spots of artillery fire as much as possible.
In other words, if the former is used, it is impossible for the two artillery regiments to hit the 518.6 heights behind the 481 and 544 heights. On the contrary, if the latter is used to deploy artillery fire, the two artillery regiments can not only assist our army
The frontal feint attack can also provide fire cover for our penetrating force after our army penetrates to the 518.6 Highland.
Similarly, the other two artillery regiments were deployed in the direction of Aidian to provide cover for the troops in the direction of Aidian and create the illusion of attacking Luping.
As for the artillery battalion in our combined battalion... Needless to say, this is of course used to accompany us along the way we travel, and to be ready to provide us with artillery support at any time.
This kept Wu Dengxiong and Chuang Wangyigan in the artillery team very busy. You must know that it is not a simple matter to accompany the advance and provide artillery support at any time... The reason is that there are many places where our army is advancing.
In the blind spots of artillery, the only blind spots in these blind spots are artillery
The team can only avoid it by entering some special areas. In other words...that is, as our army moves forward along Highway 4, the artillery battalion must constantly change its position if it wants to provide us with artillery assistance at any time.
.Sometimes you have to go forward and sometimes you have to go back...
So the observers from the artillery battalion went out everywhere to measure... They almost climbed all the mountains near Banwang Zhi Aidian. Every time they climbed a mountain, an artillery observation post was set up, and then the corresponding contact information was established, and then used
High-power telescopes and steering wheels and other instruments are used for observation and mapping... and then various data are summarized and calculated. Finally, we can figure out which position the artillery battalion should be in to provide better cover whenever we intersect on which road section.
There will also be some special areas... For example, there are several areas that can control several sections of Highway 4 at the same time. For these important areas, it would be a waste of time to have the artillery battalion come back and forth frequently. Arrange
But it’s not necessary at the same time... Commander Huang transferred two more artillery battalions to permanently station in these areas and the problem was solved.
Therefore, the amount of artillery used in the end surprised me... Originally I only asked for three artillery regiments, but I didn't expect that it would now be more than five artillery regiments!
And the combat purpose of all three infantry regiments plus five artillery regiments is just for the smooth penetration of our battalion!
This may seem a bit unimaginable, but if you think about it deeply, you will find that it is quite normal.
Blitzkrieg...actually it had to be fought like this, but the Germans used bombers, fighter jets, and reconnaissance aircraft to provide fire cover for the armored forces...There is no doubt that it is much more convenient, simpler and more flexible to use aircraft to provide cover.
Much more, because there is no blind spot anywhere for the aircraft, and the speed is still quite fast. What's even more amazing is that even if the mechanized troops temporarily change the direction of insertion, they will not be unable to cover... Just report it
Position and direction, just let the plane fly to that place!
But using artillery... If you want to achieve the effect of full cover, the procedure is much more complicated. Just like Wu Dengxiong and other artillery observers, a large amount of data must be collected, and the data must be processed and arranged... Among them
It is inevitable that mistakes of this kind will occur, and some blind spots cannot be avoided... Although there are not many such blind spots, once there are Vietnamese troops stationed there, there is nothing the artillery can do.
But there is nothing we can do about it... Who told us not to dispatch the air force now? If the air force cannot be used, then we can only use artillery to make up for it!
Fortunately, the area we are going to cross is right in front of us... that is, most of Highway 4 is within the visual range of the 1300 Highlands of Wo Aidian... It is said that on the main peak of the 1300 Highlands, when the weather is good, you can see it with a high-powered telescope.
Lang Son can be observed, so it is natural to observe the highlands on both sides of Highway 4.
To put it simply, this blitzkrieg, which uses artillery to provide cover, is only feasible within this visual range. If we go deeper into the hinterland... well! The artillery has no data support, and none of them can hit accurately. What do you think?
There is no way to provide cover.
Therefore... it is quite wise for the German army to choose to use fighter planes to provide reconnaissance and cover for intervening troops. Of course, this also requires close coordination between air, ground, infantry and tanks, etc.
What makes people a little helpless is that the German army was already familiar with all of these as early as the early days of World War II, but our army still has its own branches fighting independently... From this aspect, our army is indeed still different from other countries.
There is a long distance.
Of course, these are not my concerns... Although I know something about artillery tactics, compared to Chuang Wang, Wu Dengxiong and the others are still laymen, so I can safely leave these matters to them... We will
Just report the coordinates and call for artillery fire when the time comes.
All I have to do is lead other troops to practice over and over again in the training base.
With the plan, the training will be targeted. First, all the mortar companies will be replaced with large-caliber heavy mortars. Their training will also be transformed into a coordinated synchronized tank attack on the reverse slope of a high ground, and then use the fastest
At such speed, a mortar position was constructed on the reverse slope to strike at various targets on the two highlands ahead...
This is actually to occupy the 518.6 Highlands, and then bomb the 481 Highlands and 544 Highlands in front... Of course, the mortar company at this time did not know this, so Hu Chuiming, the commander of the mortar company, received this training
While planning, I couldn't help but be stunned: They had never fought such a battle before... How could this enemy let himself explode in front of him?!!
However, he was doubtful, and the order still had to be carried out, so he immediately made rectifications according to the training plan without hesitation, and found several similar highlands in the base to start training.
The coordination between infantry and tanks is particularly important here... The main reason is that tanks are the sharp weapons for our army to bulldoze Tongmian and quickly occupy the 518.6 Highlands. This requires us to ensure that a sufficient number of tanks are inserted into Banwang.
Commander Huang also felt that fifteen tanks might be too few, and asked me if I needed to add a few more tanks... But I felt that the additional tanks might not be able to coordinate well with our army.
There would be chaos because of these additional tanks, so I thought about it and refused. I just asked for some old parts in the tanks to be replaced and repaired... As long as it can be guaranteed that the tank company will not be reduced in number due to malfunctions on the road.
