Chapter 80 Kalad’s Story

After listening to Kalad's self-introduction, Snorri was a time traveler after all, and he was the first to react.

He stood up and turned on the spigot of the wine barrel on the carriage, drank two glasses of the best-selling Bergman Selection, and handed one of them to the dwarf in front of him.

"My friend, would you like to tell us your story? If you don't mind." Snorri spoke.

Many wandering dwarves have their own unspeakable secrets. They either suffered a shame that was not enough for them to choose to become butchers, or they were exiled for some reason.

Many wanderers don't like to tell their stories, but Snorri believes that since this dwarf is close to him, he must be willing to speak.

"Oh, since you are interested, let me tell you a little bit!" Kalad lived up to Snorri's expectations, and he began to tell after the two had a drink.

"I am from a clan that lives in the Human Empire. According to the records in the Book of Hatred, our hometown fell during the Dark Ages."

Hearing this, Snorri and the surrounding tribesmen felt very sad. Most of the dwarves living outside the mountains can trace this reason.

"As I awakened my ancestral bloodline and became qualified to control the power of runes, I was naturally accepted as an apprentice by the only rune blacksmith in the settlement."

Kalad took a sip of beer, and a glimmer of light seemed to appear on his face. It was obviously a good memory.

"Unlike you who studied under Master Krag, a powerful man who is comparable to the ancestors and gods, although my teacher taught me everything he has to offer, you know that our clansmen who live far away from the mountains have lost a lot of their inheritance.

Awesome."

Snorri nodded. He understood this situation. Due to the small population, once there are no people of the right age to awaken the ancestral blood around, the skills of these rune blacksmiths outside the mountains will be lost.

Even if you barely find an apprentice, you may not be able to master all the skills of the teacher, and some runes will still be lost.

"My teacher only mastered five, or four and a half, types of runes!" Kalad sighed.

"Probably Tourni was secretly blessing me. I learned all the master's skills when I was one hundred and twenty years old. I was still young at that time and didn't want to spend my whole life in front of the anvil enchanting equipment. In order to further improve my abilities,

I left our settlement and returned to the kingdom of mountains."

Kalad's expression darkened again, and it was obvious that he had some bad experiences at this stage.

"I visited many colleagues, but, alas, I gained nothing!"

Snorri could guess what happened. Most of the rune blacksmiths didn't like to share the power of runes. Some paranoid people might leave a hand behind if they thought their disciples were not capable enough, and took the initiative to lose the skills they had mastered. What's more?

He is a dwarf who is a master of arts and crafts like Kalad.

As for academic exchanges between users of the same level, they are usually in the form of exchange of runes that they have not mastered, just like what the Silver Finger Master asked before, to exchange master-level flying runes for master-level tracking runes.

Snorri knew without asking that the runes Kalad had mastered were all common goods such as hearth and home, speed, strength, etc., and there was no room for exchange.

"I understand that this is the style of the Rune Blacksmith Guild. If given the chance, I would like to make changes!" Snorri promised. He now has the most prominent position in the team and is not worried about being criticized.

Kalad nodded and continued noncommittally: "In order to have the opportunity to continue to improve myself, I decided to create my own runes!"

"Did you succeed?" Snorri asked in surprise. Creating your own runes is very difficult even for rune masters.

"I succeeded, but it can also be said that I failed!" Kalad went around in a circle, but this time Snorri did not interrupt.

"I combined my incomplete inheritance and some information that I could find and spent ten years creating a rune. However, its effect is not significant."

"As expected!" Snorri added. The research and development of runes is comparable to the scientific research in his previous life. In many cases, the results need to go through a difficult transformation process before they can be put into application.

"So, what are the effects of the runes you developed?" Snorri asked, he still wanted to know.

"Grandny, here! Is this what you have on your foot? Could it be?" Kalad suddenly stared at Snorri's boots and asked.

Since dwarves are accustomed to sitting cross-legged on the ground, Snorri raised his feet to reveal his Stari boots.

"It's Starley's Boots!"

"The reason why I'm excited is not because of the preciousness of these boots, but because the inspiration for my development of runes came from them!" Kalad adjusted his sitting posture and said.

Seeing that his glass was bottomed out, Snorri made him another drink.

"How do you say it?" Snorri was persuasive.

"The inheritance I have happens to include the craft of carving a rune on two items to make it work normally. I combined this craft with the lighting runes I have mastered, so that every time half of the runes are struck,

, the other half of the runes will also glow simultaneously."

Snorri was lost in thought, and Kalad smiled when he saw this.

"It's boring, isn't it? But I think it must be of some use. In order to apply it, I went to learn engineering technology incognito, but unfortunately, with the succession of Lord Aric Rufusun of Karak-Horn

, he expelled the originally small number of members of the Hornburg Engineers Guild. This is why I appear in front of you."

"How far can this rune maintain a link?" Snorri stroked the beard on his chest. He suddenly had an idea.

"It depends on the donor, master!" Kalad entered the state when talking about his research results.

"The power of the rune itself is only a few hundred meters. Of course, this may be due to the raw materials I choose, but if our peers or human casters inject energy into it, the effective distance can be as high as hundreds of kilometers!

I did an experiment with a mage friend of mine. I was in the Horn Keep and he was in the Empire's Ivey Land. The runes are still effective at this distance."

"Furthermore, I infer that if you or even someone with more power like your master supplies the energy, the distance of contact will be even further! I have not come into contact with a treasure like the Doomsday Anvil, but I think that if the seal is engraved on it,

With its ability to automatically restrain the wind of magic, it may even save the need for charging!"

Kalad Stormwalker talks endlessly about his skills, perhaps because Snorri is one of the few rune masters willing to listen to his stories, or perhaps because he wants to tell the ancestor goddess.
