24. Victory

The breath of the void and the aroma of flesh and blood drove the ghouls crazy.

When the last bone door collided and rose, the strong body of the ghoul leader squeezed out of the hole, and the arena reached its climax with roars.

Invisible faith separated from the fanatical ghoul, lingering and rising into the void.

Lu Li realized that the Ghoul King casting his gaze in the void was affecting them.

But he kept Claire's teachings in mind, and did not lose his mind and went on a rampage, becoming the nutrient of the Ghoul King. He used his physical advantages to nimbly avoid the attacks and claws of the ghoul leader, and even threw away the "staff" that affected his speed.

The nimble Lu Li was like an assassin who briefly hid in the shadow of the ghoul leader, waiting for an opportunity to jump onto its broad back, swinging his sharp claws and cutting through the gnarled muscles like tree roots.

Unable to grab his claws on his back, the ghoul leader roared and fell backwards, but before that, Lu Li had already jumped off his back and used this opportunity to slash across his originally protected throat.

The ghoul leader's retracted claws blocked the attack, leaving only new scratches on the scarred bone claws.

Lu Li retreated, once again finding himself in the predicament of having the ghoul leader roar and run in circles.

Roars like boos came from the surrounding auditorium, but they had no impact at all except the noise. Lu Li unswervingly added new scars to the ghoul leader's body.

The scales quickly tipped towards the uninjured Lu Li, and the thick, dirty blood that the ghoul leader spilled that soaked a large area of soil was of no use to his fellow humans.

Even if it tried to show weakness, it could not tempt Lu Li to advance.

"Dirty...maggots! Frontal...fight!"

The Silent One was forced to roar, and once again grabbed Lu Li's shadow with his claws, hunched over and panting weakly.

At this moment, Lu Li suddenly turned and rushed towards it, stabbing the silent man's chest with his sharp claws - he suddenly stopped when he penetrated a few centimeters.

The approaching death aroused the Silent Man's last strength, roaring and grabbing Lu Li, throwing him down and trying to crush him.

The size of the ghoul leader finally gave it an advantage - it grabbed Lu Li, but Lu Li couldn't touch him.

The bones and flesh were crushed by the huge force, squeezing the chest. Lu Li tore at its giant claws, but it was difficult to cut off the fascia protected by the hard bones in a short time.

Before being forced to release his dream, Lu Li saw the "staff" at his feet. Before his chest was crushed, he picked it up and stabbed the ghoul leader from bottom to top.

One of Claire's doubts is solved: Ghouls have no sexual characteristics.

At least none below the ghoul leader.

The severely injured leader finally fell. Lu Li stood up like a broken glass, picked up his staff despite the roar of dissatisfaction, and looked up at the ghoul leader.

The ghoul leader stared coldly at the standing Lu Li, raised his bloody claw that was holding the bone whip, and suddenly looked like he was listening in awe, and then raised his bloody claw that was about to swing.

The shouts above the arena gradually subsided, and the deep voice of the ghoul leader sounded:

"A brave and... special warrior."

Its thick-filmed eyes looked strangely at a warlock who didn't look like a warlock.

"The great Ghoul King is pleased with this battle."

Lu Li felt that the gaze in the depths of the void was gradually fading away.

What did the ghoul king notice?

"This ceremony makes the great Ghoul King slightly happy. He allows me to give you a title and a name——"

The ghoul leader also noticed his departure and no longer bothered with the battle that made him sleepy. "Cowardly bloody man."

Coward, mocking Lu Li for hiding from people and his weak body.

Lu Li didn't care about honors and gifts, because he was not a real ghoul. Not to mention the titles and names that were derogatory and mocking.

The ghoul leader and his servants left the arena, and the ghouls in the audience also left.

But a short ghoul warlock wearing a cloak stepped down from the arena and approached Lu Li.

"Throw the Silent into the pool of blood."

The old ghoul warlock told the other warlocks surrounding him. His turbid, rotten, crimson eyes with wisdom in their depths reflected the standing Lu Li: "Smart boy..."

"You can call me, Blood Spirit. Are you dissatisfied with the leader's name?"

Lu Li remained silent. Rather than dealing with this fluent warlock, he preferred to deal with other ghouls whose heads were just decorations.

The ghoul warlock continued without hesitation: "I don't think this is insulting or offensive... I like the name 'human'. Although they are weak and pure, they use their wisdom to build a new world."

The senses that the blood spirit brought to Lu Li did not belong to the ghoul group at all. It was more like a wise man, a being with wisdom, a ghoul... who might have been a human.

"I am different from them. And I can see that you are also different from them...we are the same..."

Lu Li almost thought it meant something, but he seemed to just appreciate the poor wisdom of the ghoul tribe.

"Do you want to be my subordinate? Your wisdom should shine where it should."

"Not yet."

Being around a smart ghoul might reveal his secret, and Lu Li has something to do.

"what are you up to?"

"revenge."

The ghoul warlock asked Lu Li to come to the outpost to die. Now that Lu Li is still alive, it's time for the ghoul to pay the price.

"You don't need to soak in the blood pool."

Lu Li and Xue Ling passed by the filthy and sticky blood pool and retrieved the four imprisoned ghoul warriors.

Standing next to the ghoul warriors at the outpost, the warriors from the lair were as weak as civilians.

"What happened to the Blood Plague Clan?" Lu Li asked.

The Blood Spirit Warlock did not hesitate to answer: "They are a festering, abominable creature, without faith, without thinking, as low as dust... Their existence is a blasphemy against the great King of Ghouls..."

No matter how much the Blood Spirits belittled each other, there was always one thing that could not be erased: the Blood Plague tribe was retreating steadily, and even established outposts to prepare to withdraw from the east.

A blood-carpeted street appears outside the outpost.

The conversation between Lu Li and Blood Spirit also changed from Eastern to Human.

"They are weak, but they can shine brightly, just because of their wisdom... We ghouls will use our wisdom to become a greater race..."

Lu Li was noncommittal.

"What do you think of humans?" Blood Spirit asked.

"...I have never been in contact with them."

Lu Li avoided dangerous topics.

"I have come into contact with... these are races whose weak bodies carry wisdom. Unfortunately, they do not cherish everything they have. They only attribute everything to false gods and are immersed in arrogance..."

Lu Li agreed with Blood Spirit's point of view, at least for now.

"But their ugly and weak souls cannot control their talents. They waste them wantonly, showing their ugliness and weakness..."

"I disagree."

Lu Li could no longer remain silent.

"They are all independent individuals just like us. Those who struggle to survive in the dark and cold are human beings, and those who cry and surrender are also human beings."

"They are great only because of themselves."
