22. The girl in the oil painting

anyway……

Lu Li picked up the flintlock gun, stood up, and looked around at the mess and debris all over the ground.

...one ghost has been dealt with.

There is a layer of leather between the carved patterns on the palm and the gun body. The feeling of becoming stronger is not an illusion. As an evil spirit dies under the gun, the rose pattern on the flintlock gun body blooms a little.

Maybe you can ask Hades after the gallery incident is resolved.

Rustling, rustling——

There was a strange sound coming from downstairs. Not planning to clean up the house for Benjamin, Lu Li stepped over the broken debris on the floor, picked up the oil lamp that had fallen in the corner, glanced at the sculpture in another corner, and turned to walk out the door.

.

Bang.

The door closed softly, the last ray of light disappeared, and the messy room fell into darkness and silence.

There was silence in the closed room, and the sculpture unexpectedly became silent. Perhaps it was frightened?

After escaping from the pursuit of the sculpture, Lu Li returned downstairs. A strange noise came from the darkness not far ahead. He walked toward the source of the sound with his hand-held oil lamp.

As he got closer, a beautiful figure peeking out of an oil painting appeared in front of his eyes.

"Mrs. An Lei's Daughter"

This is the painting referred to in the envelope, and is also the name of the painting.

As expected, the description in the envelope was wrong again. It only said that the girl in the oil painting would come to life after dark, but it did not say that the girl in the oil painting would crawl out of the oil painting.

The half of her body that poked out of the portrait seemed like a living person. The Gothic dress was white and plain, unlike the dull and gray oil painting. She seemed to be stuck out of the photo frame, gasping slightly and struggling, trying to get out of the portrait.

Lu Li watched quietly, slowly lifting his coat with his right hand and reaching behind him. The holster of his gun was hung on his waist, which was more convenient and more concealed.

After getting rid of a ghost and getting real benefits, Lu Li was no longer so resistant to contact with ghosts.

While holding the handle of the gun, the fluttering girl finally noticed. She raised her head blankly and looked into Lu Li's black eyes.

A blush spreads silently from the fair neck to the delicate face, clearly visible under the dim oil lamp.

The girl held the picture frame, brushed her hair away from her forehead with one hand, and pretended to smile gracefully: "Hi, can you help me?"

If you didn't consider that she was stuck in the painting with her face covered with blush, she might look like an elegant aristocratic girl.

Before Lu Li could speak, the portrait suddenly shook, as if it couldn't support the weight and fell off the wall.

"ah--"

Snap——

The screams stopped suddenly, and the entire oil painting hit the ground, making an inexplicable and painful sound.

"..."

Lu Li remained quiet.

As Lu Li watched, the portrait that fell to the ground remained silent for a few seconds, then suddenly stood up.

Yes, she stood up. A pair of white and tender feet appeared at the bottom of the portrait, followed by a snow-white lace pleated skirt.

There were two more hands on both sides of the frame, holding on to it like taking off a woolen sweater. The girl stood there and took off the oil painting from her head.

"Hey~"

Hair fell from the edge of the frame and scattered on her delicate, slightly red cheeks like a porcelain doll.

The girl exhaled slightly, threw the oil painting aside as if throwing away trash, and floated it in front of Lu Li.

"Although you didn't help, I forgive you~ Huh? You're a stranger. Where's that little girl Leona? She was so scared that she resigned? Just call me Anna."

Lu Li didn't say a word, and the girl chirped a lot in her clear voice.

"Well, I'm the new night watchman," Lu Li said.

Lu Li concealed his occupation. This being who was considered a ghost for the time being seemed easy to get along with, but it would not be that simple if he was revealed to be an exorcist.

"You don't look scared at all. Leona told you? Or is it that fat guy Benjamin?"

"You know Benjamin?"

"How could I not know about the gallery he bought from my mother?"

"Are you An Lei's daughter?"

"uh-huh."

Anna raised her head proudly, revealing her smooth and white lower jaw.

Things were more complicated than he imagined. Lu Li almost subconsciously connected the current clues together and checked the boxes of conspiracy theories.

"How did you die?"

"No one taught you not to ask ghosts how they died!"

"No." Lu Li replied.

He only knows not to ask a woman's age casually,

"Then you know now."

"Um."

Lu Li nodded and did not inquire further. Anyway, this matter had nothing to do with his investigation.

After retracting his thoughts, he suddenly noticed that Anna's cheek was close to hers, and her face was rosy. It was almost impossible for people to associate this girl with a charming smile with the undead.

"Hey, are you really not scared at all?" She narrowed her eyes slightly, and it was impossible to distinguish the color of those crystal clear eyes under the oil lamp.

"Why are you afraid?" Lu Li tilted his head slightly, confused.

"I'm a ghost!"

"But cute."

Anna suddenly fluttered backwards like an electric shock. Her eyes wandered away and she did not dare to look at Lu Li. The faded blush reappeared: "Wha, what...Has the gallery fallen into such a state that it just accepts such a glib guy as an employee?"

"Hmph... don't think you can fool me by just saying something nice. I..."

During the chatter, a disturbing voice sounded in her ears, interrupting Anna's mindless nonsense.

"If there's nothing else, you can continue, I still have something to deal with."

After confirming that the ghost had no ill intentions, Lu Li turned around and planned to leave.

"Eh? What are you going to do?"

"Looking into some things."

"What's up?"

"Something about the other two ghosts in the gallery."

There was sudden silence behind me.

Until Lu Li took a few steps, a weak questioning voice sounded from behind.

"Let's not provoke them, okay...?"

A ghost can actually be afraid of ghosts.

"So I just said I would go and didn't take you with me." Lu Li said without stopping or looking back.

"And the two ghosts were lured away by me, so the upstairs is empty."

Anna subconsciously followed Lu Li and exclaimed: "Lead, lead away?!"

"Um."

The eyes staring at Lu Li's back gradually became strange: "Do you have any conspiracy to lure them away? Steal things? Set fire?"

There was no hostility or vigilance in her words, only curiosity. It seemed that she wouldn't mind even if Lu Li wanted to do these two things.

"Just out of curiosity, I want to investigate some of the causes of their deaths." Lu Li answered.

"Oh~~~"

"Do you know their names?" Lu Li asked. If Anna knew, it would save a lot of things.

"Athena Leslie, there is another one named Ruth...? I don't know her last name."

I mentally compared it with the employee book. The first name matched, but the second name, Lu Li, had no image. It did not appear in the employee book.

"I don't remember having an employee named Ruth before."

"Of course you won't know her. She's not an employee here."

Lu Li stopped for a moment, turned back to look at Anna, and frowned: "Aren't you an employee here?"

"Um!"

"Then why is she here?"

"Because the person who killed her was a former employee of ours."

Anna tilted her head and thought for a while.

"That man's name is James Campbell."
