12. A lone boat cannot protect anyone in a storm

Humanity is no more able to withstand the coming destruction than a colony of ants in a backyard can dispel the coming storm.

In the early industrial age when medicine was underdeveloped, Lu Li could die from even ordinary injuries.

"Will you come back?"

Although she was disappointed that they had just met and were about to part ways, Remi still had a glimmer of hope.

She never thought about following Lu Li away with her brother. He had already helped them too much, and there was no way the monster could get on the big ship.

"Maybe."

Lu Li opened the drawer of the wooden table and took out the sheepskin map wrapped in cloth. He didn't have to worry about insects chewing it, so he just used it to protect it from moisture.

The first people to suffer from plant disasters are not humans, but mosquitoes.

In normal July, the humid and hot Belfast makes people want to take off their clothes, but they hate the mosquito bites hidden in the grass.

It's so cold in Belfast now that it feels like the coast is about to freeze over, and the mosquitoes that once made people so annoying and annoying have disappeared.

Most ordinary people don't see this as a bad thing, just as they don't see anything wrong with trees not growing - except for farmers.

He unfolded the sheepskin map, handed it to Remi and said, "As long as you don't harm the elm trees, most of them are safe, except for Silent Hill."

Remi took the map, and Lu Li's voice continued: "I didn't have time to explore there, just in case, be careful there."

Putting away the map, Remi looked at Lu Li seriously and said, "We will build a wooden house next to the cave and keep it as a refuge until you come back."

The experience of being far away did not seem to diminish the brother and sister's gratitude to Lu Li.

Lu Li was noncommittal. After Remi asked about his sanity, he silently replied: "Not very good."

Lu Li talked about his sanity situation.

"Didn't you use the method I wrote in the letter?"

"The price is too high." Lu Li replied.

There is a proverb among sailors in the Port of Rodeste: half of those who fall into the sea will drown, and half will die of dehydration and thirst.

Sailors used this proverb to mock inland people who thought seawater was as drinkable as ordinary water.

The method Remi mentioned was no different from sea water - Lu Li could not bear the huge price caused by eating strange things.

He is still only human after all.

But as his sanity value gradually declines, Lu Li will one day be unable to bear the price of decline and... eat weird things.

After all, the outcome couldn't have been worse.

"I'll keep an eye out for weird edible ones around me."

Lu Li said, putting it into the options.

He opened the cellar and signaled to the brothers and sisters that the food inside was enough for Jimmy to eat for a while, and the tools were enough for them to build a cabin.

As for how to obtain wood...the brothers and sisters who know the Elm Forest know how to avoid danger.

It was approaching ten o'clock in the morning. Lu Li, who had no intention of staying, left the cave. Remy and Jimmy followed. Lu Li turned his head and said to Anna: "Go and say goodbye to Annie."

Anna nodded slightly and drifted towards the lonely and thin withered elm tree.

"That's Anna's sister and the future Lord of the Elm Forest." Lu Li said to the siblings behind him.

"We will take good care of her." Remi remembered it in her heart.

Under the drizzle, Anna, whose illusory figure was hazy, murmured something softly, picked up a stone, and left a mark as high as herself on the body of Anna's tree.

After saying goodbye, Lu Li took the carriage that his brother and sister had asked him to take back to the carriage house, and left the top of the cliff amidst Remy Jimmy's farewell voice and the lingering farewell emotion surrounding him.

"This is your deposit of 80 shillings, please keep it sir."

After returning the carriage rented by the brother and sister, Lu Li drove to the Snowflake neighborhood on the coast.

Near noon, Lu Li's carriage arrived at the investigators' base.

In the distance, there was a burst of noise from the Rodster Port, and the sound of ship horns was uninterrupted. It was so bustling that it seemed to have returned to its former glory.

Snowflake Street was equally crowded, and people from out of town who had not yet boarded the ship gathered in the bars on the coastal streets, on the beach, and beside the guardrail.

Anna stayed on the carriage while Lu Li walked into the maintenance station and underground alone.

But Tesla is not here, not only him, but also the three remaining people in charge of the Belfast area are not at the base.

Perhaps it was too late to learn the secret of the "door" and the whereabouts of Richard before leaving.

The official store manager of the Andres Brothers Repair Station, a real alliance employee named Anres, took advantage of the break when no one was visiting the store and told Lu Li that he could help him contact him if it was urgent.

Lu Li looked at the time and saw that there were only a few dozen minutes left before 12 o'clock. He shook his head and declined his help, and left the maintenance station and returned to the carriage.

The horses' hooves moved, and the carriage drove towards the top of the mountain.

Lu Li was sitting in the carriage while Anna controlled the carriage. As time went by, the vibrations from the wheels became more and more serious. Lu Li broke away from his thoughts and opened the curtains to look outside.

The simple and dilapidated wooden long houses extend into the distance, and the broken bluestone road is the ultimate challenge for any drunkard.

When Lu Li remembered where they were, they had already entered the slums.

Anna hoped that this stretch of road would pass quickly, as the bumps would make Lu Li feel uncomfortable. However, it backfired as three figures suddenly appeared in front of the carriage, blocking the way.

"There are two strange guys blocking us." Anna's voice sounded in her ears.

Lu Li stepped out of the carriage and looked at the two young men, each holding a wooden stick and wearing overalls with suspenders.

"Sir, can you give us some money?" the honest-looking young man said politely, but was pushed away by the brown-haired young man on the side: "Shut up, you idiot, we want to fight -"

"How much do you want?" Lu Li looked at them calmly.

"Just need-"

The honest young man's voice was interrupted by the brown-haired young man, who pretended to be vicious: "Everyone! Take out all the shillings you have!"

As soon as the words fell, the three young people suddenly felt a chill descending on their bodies.

They didn't wear much, and they could hardly help shivering in the cold.

"No way, I will only give you 20 shillings."

No residents or passers-by around the carriage witnessed this incredible robbery.

"It's all your fault, you idiot."

Mike glared at his companion, deliberately waved the wooden stick, making a cracking sound in the air to increase deterrence, and raised his voice and said: "You seem to have made a mistake. We are the ones who robbed you, not the merchants who bargained with you!"

"I'm an investigator." Lu Li said, noticing the confusion in the two young men's eyes, he added: "You can understand them as exorcists."

"Are you a policeman?" Mike asked curiously.

"no."

"That won't work!"

"But I help people stay away from weird intrusions."

Virgil leaned into Mike's ear and whispered: "He is a good man, maybe we shouldn't do this..."

Mike pushed his unhelpful companion away with his shoulder. He wanted to say something but couldn't. He could only say helplessly: "Okay, then 20 shillings..."
