22. Bring out the people behind the scenes

Amidst the traffic in Belfast, a carriage went upstream. The once dreamy Agate Lake was now covered in dust. The carriage passed far away and climbed over Sugard Mountain to reach the back.

"We won't arrive at Marsh Road until tomorrow morning. Do you want to take a rest?"

After leaving the foot of the mountain, Anna put away the remaining food and asked.

"Wait a moment."

Lu Li opened the car curtain and looked forward. The approaching night brought darkness, but he did not see the deep and mysterious projection overlooking Belfast again.

Until darkness completely surrounded him, oppressing the light of the oil lamp hanging on the carriage and filled with ominous whispers, Lu Li returned to the carriage.

Sitting on the blanket that Anna had laid out, Anna spread the aura of her resentful spirit to the surroundings, and was careful not to affect Lu Li.

"There are no weird things nearby, and no one is following us." Anna whispered.

"Maybe in the distance, maybe following in a way we don't know."

Lu Li's words made Anna think of a possibility: "What if he could hear our conversation and know our plan...or wouldn't he stop you from going to the Main Continent?"

"It's best not to be like this."

Lu Li said, this means that their only clear clue has disappeared.

But maybe he has a special way of sensing Lu Li's location, such as——

Lu Li's gaze fell to the roof of the car.

I can see other people's bloody tentacles descending from the clouds. What if other people can also...

If this is the answer, Lu Li can already lock Richard behind the scenes.

Covered with a woolen coat, Lu Li quickly fell asleep on the blanket. Anna released her aura mercilessly, driving away any strange things that might come close.

The rustle of drizzle falling on the car roof, the slow rattle of the counter, the shudder of the wheels rolling across the slippery dirt road, and the flickering flame of the oil lamp.

Lu Li woke up several times in the quiet midnight.

"Isn't it good to rest?"

When Lu Li opened his eyes for the fourth time, Anna asked softly.

Lu Li looked around, and the presence that woke him up had faded away: "There was a whisper in his ears."

When Anna's scarlet eyes became sharp, Lu Li said, "It's a projection of the other world."

It is not a pleasant thing to hear someone whisper in your ear while you are sleeping.

"The method that brother and sister Remi mentioned to restore sanity..."

"Not now."

Lu Li closed his eyes again and spoke calmly as if nothing had happened: "Just get used to it."

Perhaps it was because Lu Li was getting used to it, as Lu Li said, or perhaps the whispers stopped temporarily. When it got darker, Lu Li woke up from his deep sleep.

"Where are we?"

"Rose Town is ahead."

The drizzle is still falling, and the weather is so cold that people want to put on several layers of clothes.

Lifting the car curtain, Lu Li looked towards the gloomy clouds and stared at the sky ahead for a long time.

"What did you find?" Anna asked softly.

"The position of the tentacles has changed."

The bloody tentacles hanging from the clouds are always distributed in other continents far away from the Allen Peninsula, and the nearest ones are as far away as the Main Continent.

Perhaps their owners will move, but the distance is too far, like stars that have never been seen in this world, and it is difficult to observe their movement.

But now, under the clouds, the direction of the blood-colored tentacles of the Main Continent has changed slightly, and the tentacles that were once illusory due to distance have become solid.

It's like it's not far from the Arran Peninsula.

Anna thoughtfully said: "In other words... the reason why you stay is probably related to Richard?"

Lu Li temporarily left the car and looked around at the other two bloody tentacles in other directions - perhaps it was an illusion caused by the difficulty in distinguishing directions in the wilderness, but their positions were indeed changing.

One of the bloody tentacles was more solid than the one in the Main Familiar Continent, as if... it had arrived in Belfast.

"Maybe." Lu Li whispered.

The silent town of Rose has appeared ahead.

Two days have passed since the shadow of the Shadow Town incident, and Rose Town, which is closest to Shadow Town, has still not escaped from the previous gloomy atmosphere.

There are almost no townspeople going out on the streets, and there is still a team of night watchmen stationed in the town to monitor the movements of the Southern Shadow Swamp.

The carriage drove slowly through the streets of Rose Town.

If that person still contacts Lu Li by sending a letter, Rose Town is his last chance. Further ahead is the ruined Shadow Town, and then sending a letter will become very abrupt and suspicious.

However, until the carriage passed through Rose Town, the town was gradually left behind, and the "messenger" Lu Li was waiting for still did not appear.

"There is still a chance." Anna comforted Lu Li, although she knew that Lu Li did not need comfort.

After driving on the dirt road for more than ten minutes, the lead-colored land in the distance appeared like a sketch, and the ruins of a dilapidated town appeared dimly in the drizzle.

The center of the whirlpool not long ago, Shadow Town.

As the carriage got closer, more details emerged in the eyes of Lu Li and Anna.

The members of the Exorcist Alliance are dealing with the aftermath of the Shadow Town incident - searching for possible survivors, cultists, searching for contaminants, and burying corpses that will cause the plague.

"Are we going around Shadow Town?" Anna asked.

"Um."

Although Anna will be fine if she stays by Lu Li's side, trouble can be avoided if possible.

Lu Li got out of the carriage wrapped in a blanket, took the clammy reins, and prepared to take another road on the fork a hundred meters ahead.

"Southern Shadow Swamp is the territory of the Swamp Mother. What about the northern swamp?" Anna asked as she was approaching the territory of the Swamp Mother and remembered something.

Before Lu Li could answer, the sound of wheels rolling behind them gradually became clearer.

A carriage without cargo quickly caught up with Lu Li. Lu Li realized something and pulled the reins. When it stopped, the brown-haired young man sitting in the carriage shouted to Lu Li, "Are you Lu Li?"

"It's me."

Lu Li observed the young man. He was wearing a patched linen coat, and his hands holding the reins had a layer of calluses.

"Someone asked me to give you a letter." The young man said, reaching into his arms to take out the letter.

At the same time, Anna appeared.

"Anna."

At the same time as Lu Li spoke, the aura of resentful spirits surged towards the young man, imprisoning the space around him.

The unable to move young man's eyes widened and he struggled and screamed in panic. Anna frowned and gently waved his hand to shut his mouth.

With a trace of doubt deep in his eyes, Lu Li looked away from the young man and lowered his head to open the letter.

The content was almost the same as the letter received on the ship, except that it changed from warning Lu Li not to go to sea to not to leave the Allen Peninsula.

Looking up, Anna was interrogating the frightened young man. The poor guy even peed his pants because of Anna's fright.

After a few questions, Anna frowned and looked at Lu Li: "He doesn't seem to be the guy hiding..."

"Um."

This is just an ordinary citizen of Rose Town.

"Did you just call me because you found out?" Anna realized something.

After a slight pause, Lu Li said calmly: "I just asked you not to kill him."
