6. The rising tide

The warm breeze blew Lu Li's wet body.

There was a faint smell of sulfur in the wind.

Lu Li climbed out of the hole and stood up, looking into the space that was not dark.

Using underground caves to describe this underground space is no longer appropriate.

The vast underground world is even more spectacular than the ground. Countless natural stone pillars hundreds of meters high support the underground world. The magma river branches like branches and flows windingly, bypassing the magnificent and huge underground buildings like a city, and merges into the farther distance.

Magma sea.

Lu Li watched silently.

Where is he?

The tide in the underground cave overflowed through the holes and flowed downward along the terraced rock formations. The lava river a hundred meters away sounded the sound of evaporation and filled the air with white mist steam.

With these scenes, it no longer mattered whether Lu Li was thousands of meters deep underground or in a deeper hell.

Either way, it means that Lu Li's return to the ground is out of reach.

But Lu Li was not enveloped in despair.

He was thinking. If the mysterious Friday really existed, she should have had some meaning.

His eyes fell on the underground city guarded by moat-like magma. If there were any clues in this underground world, they could only be found in the lost city.

Lu Li walked with the overflowing water towards the lava river.

The temperature was getting higher and higher. When Lu Li came to the shore, the air became distorted, blocking his vision, and the temperature was unbearably hot.

Lu Li put on a dripping coat, and the biting cold blocked the heat. The coldness that had previously taken away Lu Li's body temperature became a protective presence for him.

The magma river was less than five meters wide, but it was still like a natural chasm. Lu Li looked downstream and found that the river channel dozens of meters away had narrowed to three meters wide.

He can jump across the lava river from there, but the cost of failure is terrible.

Or waiting for the spreading river water to cool the magma, but it’s still far away——

Lu Li retreated to the narrow river, stepped lightly on the solid rock bank, retreated, then suddenly accelerated towards the lava river, and jumped off the bank——

The movements are not standard or beautiful, but they are full of power and speed, and they land quickly on the other side.

There were still three branched magma rivers blocking the way. Lu Li jumped over the lava river pass as if he had passed through a barrier, reaching the edge of the underground city and reaching the lower reaches.

The magma sea was no longer far away, and the scorching heat came from hundreds of meters away, burning half of Lu Li's cheeks.

The last obstacle stood before Lu Li: the moat outside the city wall.

What flows in the river is not river water, but magma with bubbles and heat waves.

A bridge spans the moat, leading to the empty and lost city.

Lu Li squeezed some water from his clothes and sprinkled it on the bridge. The water droplets falling on the stone bridge were like glass balls rolling and beating, shrinking and evaporating under the high temperature.

The shoes only stayed on the edge of the bridge for a short time before leaving dark offset marks.

The bridge is not strong either. A twenty-pound rock broke the bridge into spider web-like cracks.

But Lu Li had no other choice.

After taking off his coat and trousers that were soaked and dry, Lu Li put them on again and stepped slowly and quickly onto the stone bridge that was more than ten meters long.

The heat wave instantly enveloped Lu Li. An unsettling cracking sound sounded from under his feet and spread to all sides. The bridge was as fragile as ice.

Thump—thump—

The fragments fell into the magma, making a duller sound than the sound of falling water.

Lu Li, who was walking fast, quickly reached the center of the bridge. It was the hottest and most fragile place——

Lu Li could almost feel the heat from the increasingly thin soles of his shoes, and the spreading cracks on the bridge were getting denser and denser, as if they were fragile glass being pressed.

After taking a few steps forward, the bridge suddenly shook and dropped down.

An obvious gap stretched across the end a few meters away.

Suddenly there was the sound of splashing water behind him. Lu Li no longer hesitated and jumped towards the city gate with a heavy step. He landed and rolled on the edge and arrived at the gate.

Lu Li's stampede became the bridge's final act. The cracked bridge began to collapse and fell into the magma. The viscous magma splashed out, swallowing the bridge that fell into the magma brightly and brightly like a lit cigar.

If it had been later, this would be Lu Li's fate.

Now, he has no way out.

The watermarks on the ground left by the tumbling shrank and disappeared, the coat was dried by the high temperature, and the steaming mist rose. The soles of the feet also lost the protection of the soles and stepped on the hot rocks.

Lu Li retracted his gaze from the magma and looked towards the city.

Behind the city gate, the street stretches straight and empty. At the end of the street, the stone pillars supporting the underground world fall into the center of the city.

There are vaguely regular artificial traces engraved on it.

Speaking of the lighthouse, Lu Li took off the student's anklets and walked into the city on warm stone bricks.

The origin of this underground city seems to be unexplainable. Who would build such a magnificent city underground at an unknown depth far from the ground?

The nearly ten-meter-high city wall is comparable to many fortified cities during wars hundreds of years ago. The streets are wide enough for eight carriages to travel side by side. The grid-like blocks are neatly arranged. The stone buildings still stand even after hundreds of years.

But Lu Li had a strange feeling when he walked into the city: it was as if he had been shrunk.

Stone bricks more than one meter long and wide, huge buildings on both sides of the street, and stone gates nearly three meters high——

It's as if this city belongs to a group of intelligent creatures larger than humans.

Underground creatures?

Lu Li entered the house with the light of the lighthouse and explored the interior, but there was nothing in each house, no furniture, no dust, not even stairs leading upstairs, only the outline of a house.

Whether it is the stone bricks on the houses or the streets, there is only aging and dust that has surfaced due to time.

The empty city lacks all traces of life, as if no residents have moved in since the city was built.

Near the center of the city, a stone monument stands on the street.

There were once pictures on the surface of the stele, but after hundreds of years of oxidation and harsh environmental attacks, only white spaces and mottled colors remain that are difficult to discern.

Lu Li is close enough to the center of the city.

The stone pillars connecting the upper and lower parts of the underground world are also fully presented.

The artificial traces on the surface of the stone pillar are not carvings, but spiral steps extending upward in circles.

The clues to the underground city are more straightforward and explicit than imagined - it leads straight to the upper level.

Lu Li walked into the circular square in the center of the city. The stone pillars extending from the spiral steps were not covered and stood straight in the center of the square.

Standing in the middle of the square, you can have an unobstructed view of the blocks leading to the four gates of the Lost City.

This empty city seemed to be just a decoration, just to guide Lu Li to find the way to the upper level.

Looking up at the spiral stone pillars, the steps of the stone pillars are incomplete.

The corrosive sulfur wind blowing underground caused serious damage to the stone pillars that were not protected by the city wall. Starting from a few dozen meters above the ground, the fractures and defects became sparse and common. Near the upper level, there was even a section of bare stone pillars that was nearly ten meters without steps.

At the end of the stone pillar, the steps extended into the darkness of the rock wall and disappeared.

Finally looking around at the empty Lost Giant City, Lu Li stepped onto the first step.
