Speaking of temples, let’s talk about the taboos and some customs of temples.
Su Jiu knew clearly that although he was a Feng Shui master, some secular rules about the temple still existed.
"Temple" generally does not require repayment of wishes. Special wishes still need to be repaid. If you cannot tell which ones are special, you cannot make random wishes casually.
But it is best to make a wish to do a certain number of good deeds, and then make a wish to prompt your own wish.
Don’t seek to get rich! Buddha does not bless you to get rich. This is a problem suffered by many donors! You can seek peace and good health.
Do not casually promise to make offerings to the Buddha and then forget about them.
The Buddha will not fight for your stick of incense. This saying is to tell us not to make promises at will. It is said that a person should practice what he preaches. What the Buddha is probably annoyed by are these false words.
Walk clockwise in the temple to worship Buddha, and do not step across the futon. When someone is praying, do not walk in front of him.
Do not pick flowers and fruits in the area managed by the temple without the consent of the temple, or take offerings and other items without permission. This is also wrong behavior. It is called "stealing and living in all directions" and there will be consequences. Do not eat meat in the temple.
If it is because they are haunted by evil creditors, they will also be happy when they make a dedication and recite the merits of worshiping Buddha to their enemies and creditors.
Regarding the bells and drums in the temple, do not knock them without permission, and do not touch cassocks, seaweed and other objects.
Sit down when everyone is praying. If you are late and the Dharma Master has already ascended the throne, you must bow to the Buddha, take a step back, and then bow to the Dharma Master. After taking your seat, do not greet anyone you know. Do not sit unsteadily, cough or talk. If you cannot listen,
When you are done, you must fold your hands to the Master and exit quietly, and do not wave to others to retreat.
The common way to salute when meeting a monk is to put your hands together and lower your head slightly. Or put one hand in front of your chest and your head slightly lowered. Avoid shaking hands, hugging, touching the monk's head and other improper etiquette.
When talking to monks and Taoists, you should not mention killing, marriage, or eating fishy meat.
Clean (wash) your hands before worshiping the Buddha.
The fragrance is not called "buy" but called "please".
Ordinary people should hold incense with their left hand because the right hand is said to be unclean and most people use their right hand to kill animals.
Three sticks are used to pray for oneself, six sticks are used to pray for two generations, and nine sticks are used to pray for three generations. Thirteen sticks are the ultimate, and thirteen sticks are the incense with perfect merit.
When entering the temple to burn incense, you can bring it yourself or buy it from outside. However, incense is generally available in the main hall, so you can use it directly. If financial conditions permit, you can put some merit money in the merit box. If it is difficult, don't worry, Bodhisattva
I won’t blame you, you will still have merit if you worship the Buddha.
Light the incense with your own fire.
Hold the incense stick between the middle and index fingers of both hands, and hold the tail of the incense with your thumb - place it on your chest, with the incense head level with the statue of Bodhisattva - then hold the incense up to your eyebrows - then place it on your chest - use your left hand
Add and insert.
To burn incense, hold the incense in your left hand and the candle in your right hand. When burning incense, light the incense with your own fire. The more powerful the incense, the better. People often say that the incense is strong.
Hold the incense with your left hand at the top and your right hand at the bottom. Hold the incense above your head and bow. Put the incense into the ashes and then go in and kowtow. If you kowtow, you must look for the Buddha, Bodhisattva or Arhat. You cannot kowtow violently to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
It is appropriate to burn incense with three branches, which indicates the three indispensable learning of "precepts, concentration, and wisdom"; it also means making offerings to the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. This is the most perfect incense offering. The amount of incense does not matter, but the sincerity of the heart.
When the incense is put into the incense burner, it should be at a horizontal angle.
You can buy your own incense and don’t let others pay for it.
It is best to light the incense with your own fire.
When offering incense, three sticks of incense are enough. Just place them in one furnace, "Ten thousand Buddhas in one furnace." Then when passing through each Buddhist hall, just put your palms together and bow three times. Buddhism does not have many particularities at all. The most important thing is that you have
There is no pure mind.
Hold the incense as high as your forehead, close your eyes and make a wish, and then bow three times.
The height of the incense stick should not be lower than the lower body.
Turn right----face the east. Generally, the door of the main hall faces south.
Make a wish according to the method and pray three times.
Then----press toward the south, make a wish, and pray three times.
After praying, you can insert the incense into the incense burner. Note that you should use your left hand to burn the incense, because the right hand is used to kill animals, and the left hand is relatively gentle. Do not throw it into the incense burner.
Going into the temple to burn incense means lighting your own inner incense. Lighting a lamp means lighting your own inner lamp. You can get blessings from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and gain wisdom and so on.
You can burn one, two, or up to three incense sticks.
However, I have seen many Buddhists ask for a rosary to hang around their necks. Most people cannot afford to do this. Therefore, if you ask for rosary beads, you should wear them on your hands.
The middle of the mats in the temple is used by family members to worship Buddha. Men in the family use the left mat to kneel and worship, and women use the right mat.
The first method of inserting incense: insert the first incense in the center, and silently say: "Offer to the Three Treasures of the Ten Directions and Three Times" while inserting. Place the second incense to the right side, and silently say: "Offer to the parents and teachers of all previous generations."
The second method of placing incense: first right, recite: "Pledge to renounce all evil." Second time, left, recite: "Pledge to practice all good deeds." Back to center, recite: "Pledge to save all sentient beings."
The third method of inserting incense is the same as the first method, but the recitation is simpler. Put the first incense in the middle and recite: "Offer to the Buddha, be aware and not confused;" Place the second incense on the right side and recite: "
The method of offering to the monks is righteous but not evil.” Place the third incense stick on the left side and read: “Offering to the monks is pure but not stained.”
After offering the incense, stand upright and join your palms in front of the Buddha statue, bow respectfully to the Buddha, join your palms, and say silently in your heart: "May this cloud of incense and flowers go straight to the place of the Three Jewels, or recite: "Go straight to the place of the Buddhas", to pray for great compassion, and to bring happiness to all living beings."
If it is an incense ring, you should point it to the Buddha with the lighted place, just like holding a long incense with both hands. When holding the incense, just silently recite in your mouth: "Offer to the Three Jewels of the Ten Directions and Three Times. May this cloud of incense reach directly to the Three Jewels, and pray
Great compassion, giving happiness to all living beings." That's it.
If you want to put sandalwood, that is, a small branch of sandalwood, you should hold the two ends of the incense with your thumb and index finger, open and straighten your middle finger, ring finger, and little finger, raise it up to your eyebrows, and put it into the incense burner front and back;
Pick up the first stick of sandalwood with your left hand and take it in with your right hand; pick up the second stick with your right hand and send it in with your left hand; the third stick is the same as the first stick. The method of visualizing and silently chanting should be the same as that of the incense stick.
It’s the same as always. Burning incense is an offering, and burning sandalwood is the best!
The posture of kneeling is to kneel on the futon with your knees together, clasp your hands together, and pay attention to the hollow shape of your palms. Raise it high above your head, and lower it to your mouth to make a wish;
Then go down to your heart and recite silently; then spread your palms, palms upward, and bow down with your upper body.
These are some of the rules and customs of the temple.
Many people have been to temples and many tourist attractions, but they don’t know how to actually do it.
Let me talk about it slightly here. (To be continued.)
ps: ps; The content of this chapter was published in response to the requests of many book friends. Regarding some taboos, sometimes cigarettes are often discussed with book friends in the group. This chapter was not originally included in the plot of the book.
Yes, however, the requests for cigarettes from brothers and sisters cannot be refused.
In addition, I would like to say one more thing, whether it is Feng Shui or Buddha and God, if you believe it, there will be it, if you don’t believe it, there will be none.
