Chapter 17 The Great Nirvana Ceremony

As soon as Zhao Ranfu entered the palace, the sound of bells and drums, the sound of gongs and cymbals, the sound of wooden fish, and the chanting of sutras were heard overwhelmingly. Zhang Juzheng on the side turned pale, his steps were trembling slightly, and his legs were weak from the shock.

Zhao Ran quickly put his fingers slightly over him, and with a little magic power, Zhang Juzheng stabilized.

According to the procedures explained in advance, Zhao Ran walked to the altar of Sakyamuni Buddha. Six great Buddhist monks were already waiting here. When they saw Zhao Ran, they clasped their hands together and said, "I have seen the Ming Envoy."

Master Yinguang, who presided over the old hall of Tianlong Dean, came out and introduced to Zhao Ran one by one: "This is the Living Buddha Sangcuo, the Tubo State Master."

The Living Buddha Sangcuo is wearing a golden ancestral robe and a red dongkha embroidered with floral brocade. He looks like he is only seventy years old, but Zhao Ran knows that this Living Buddha is already over two hundred years old and is one of the two living Buddhas in Tibet.

The oldest living Buddha.

So Zhao Ran clasped his fists and said, "I have seen the living Buddha Sangcuo in Xiaodao."

Living Buddha Sangcuo looked at Zhao Ran with squinted eyes, smiled and nodded.

Master Yinguang continued to introduce: "This is the living Buddha Jialingzhen, the master of the Northern Yuan Dynasty."

Jialingzhen Living Buddha has a dark face and a protruding nose. He looks a bit like a monk from the Western Regions. Zhao Ran continued to clasp his fists: "I have seen Jialingzhen Living Buddha."

Jialingzhen Living Buddha grinned, a smile that made Zhao Ran feel a bit creepy. He didn't dare to look at it and continued to greet the remaining people.

"I have met Master Wenyin... I have met Master Miaozhen... I have met Zen Master Xu Yongming..."

After a brief greeting, Master Yinguang raised his hand to indicate that the chanting and the sound of gongs, drums and wooden fish suddenly became silent. Master Yinguang said: "In April this year, Master Xuanci, the abbot of Taici Temple, achieved nirvana in the Hengduan Mountains. That was the time.

, the Rainbow Bridge appeared in the sky, and brought Master Xuanci to the Pure Land of the Buddha in the West. This is what the world has seen. Today, the Taoist sect sent envoys to return the Master’s rainbow body, and the Buddhist monks and tens of millions of believers of the old monks are here to welcome him!"

Everyone's eyes were on Zhao Ran, and Zhao Ran knew that it was time to hand over.

Zhao Ran could not directly take the Xuanci Rainbow Body out of the mandala. It would be disrespectful to do so, unless he did not want to return to the Ming Dynasty. Therefore, he took out the mandala mandala from his fingers, held it with both hands, and placed it gently on the altar.

On the altar.

Two monks, Liao Yuan, the leader of the Bodhi Hall, and Hong Dao, the leader of the Xuan Ye Hall, walked out of the queue below and came to the altar. The power of the Dharma entered the mandala, and the mandala instantly became bigger.

Liaoyuan and Hongdao reached in and paused for a moment. One person held the left hand and the other held the right hand. They carried out a nanmu lotus throne from the mandala. On the throne, with his eyes slightly closed, Master Xuanci with a kind face sat in lotus position, with a hand on his knees.

There is a golden bowl.

As soon as Xuanci's rainbow body came out, the sound of bells, drums, gongs and cymbals started again. All the monks in the hall fell down on the futons and paid homage. As the sound of wooden fish sounded, the hall echoed with endless chanting.

Zhao Ran stepped aside, and the six leading Buddhist monks stepped forward one by one, lightly touching the handprints of Master Xuanci's rainbow body with their foreheads, and then stepped back one by one, each offering incense.

Master Wenyin stepped forward and put a brocade cassock on Xuanci, Master Miaozhen put on Buddhist prayer beads for him, Zen Master Xu Yongming gave him a Vairocana cap, and Living Buddha Sangcuo and Living Buddha Galingzhen each put two beads on his neck.

Colorful hada.

Master Yin Guang stepped forward to tidy up for a while, and then waved his hand. The two masters, Liao Yuan and Hong Dao, lifted the lotus throne and walked around the hall. Then they left the main hall and walked around the outer teaching field.

The teaching venue outside the Main Hall is a circular gallery, divided into three floors: upper, middle and lower. Each floor is filled with Buddhist monks, monks from various temples, dignitaries from various ministries and officials from the court. There are countless people in the dense crowd. At this moment, there are many people sitting there.

Seeing the true form of Hongti, he immediately shouted for worship. The shouts resounded throughout Xingqing Mansion, and aroused the earth-shattering shouts of believers from all walks of life who were waiting outside Tianlong Courtyard.

Liaoyuan and Hongdao carried the lotus throne on which Xuanci's rainbow body was sitting, so that every attendee of the Dharma assembly could see Xuanci's Nirvana rainbow body with their own eyes, which immediately triggered a mountain-like wave of chanting.

Hongdao asked Yuan via voice transmission: "What's going on? Junior brother, can you see it clearly?"

Liaoyuan replied: "It's the Jiuxinzi Dharma Mandala, it can't be wrong!"

As the head of the Bodhi Hall, Luo Yuan can be regarded as the best expert in appreciating Buddhist treasures in the country. If he is sure that this is a real object, then it cannot be fake. In other words, even if it is fake, it is real at this moment!

Hongdao immediately said: "After the big ceremony, go and change with him!"

Liaoyuan said: "I will go to Master Yinguang soon and ask him to come forward to discuss with Zen Master Xu Yongming. Regardless of what Jambudvipa Temple wants, I will first take out the Xuanyuan Ten Sons Picture in exchange for the mandala, and then ask Jambudvipa

The temple’s compensation is from the Buddhist sect, so it’s easy to say whatever you want!”

While transmitting messages and discussing, the two eminent monks carried the Xuanci Rainbow Body and circled it three times in the teaching field, setting off a wave of frenzy of worship from the monks and believers. During this period, Hongdao loudly explained the origin of the golden bowl, which even triggered a wave of enthusiasm.

Surprised.

After the tour, the Xuanci Hongti was carried into the Main Hall. The Jiuxinzi Dharma Mandala on the altar had been taken back by Zhao Ran and replaced by a Buddhist-made rosewood shrine. The two monks carefully put the Hongti into the main hall.

It was carried into the Buddhist niche, and then the monks of Tenryuin Temple cast a spell to seal the Buddhist niche, and the golden bowl was also placed in a treasure box.

Believers from all walks of life began to enter the temple and presented offerings to Xuanci, including butter lamps, purified water, Buddhist scriptures, rosary beads, incense cauldrons, cassocks, crowns of five precepts, prayer documents, etc., in various categories.

There are mountains of piles in the hall, among which ten large yellow umbrellas are the most conspicuous, but they are the famous umbrellas donated by Ningxia tribesmen.

Seven years ago, there was a severe drought in Ningxia. At the cost of losing three years of his life, Master Xuanci made a wish to pray for rain, and countless people survived. This was a yellow umbrella sewn by the local tribesmen spontaneously. In three months, more than 100,000 people were named, and ten were made in a row.

The umbrella can only be accommodated.

Zhao Ran looked on with envy and secretly thought that if he could get a ten-person umbrella, what a great merit it would be!

After the offerings were presented, under the leadership of Master Yin Guang and other great Buddhist monks, thousands of people recited prayers and vows together in the Main Hall and in the teaching field outside the hall. Over and over again, the entire Tianlong Courtyard was filled with incense and candles, and the sound of chanting was heard.

Shocking!

This is the ritual of the Dharma Assembly on the first day. The entire Dharma Assembly will last for seven or forty-nine days. The focus is on the first seven days, in which chanting of sutras, offerings, lectures by eminent monks, etc. are interspersed. The Viddha Dharma Assembly will be held after the seventh day.

, this is the most solemn ceremony of the entire Dharma conference. After that, the eminent monks will continue to perform Dharma teachings, and the believers will also be held to practice the Eight Passes of Fasting and Mental Practice, etc.

Different from Taoism, Buddhism's Nirvana Dharma Assembly to celebrate Xuanci's enlightenment is mainly held in Tianlongyuan, while Taoism is scattered in Guangongyuan all over the country. The differences in concepts and implementation methods are also interesting.
