170: The real magic of rune script (Part 1)

Joel naturally knew something about the runes, but Joel had no idea what specific runes were engraved on Gangnir to make them work as effectively as they should.

He recalled how Odin invented the runes in Norse mythology... The method was not cruel.

Joel covered his right eye and felt cruel. This body didn't belong to him anyway, so he just had to endure some pain.

He returned to Asgard along the original route, accepted greetings from all the soldiers, and went to the crown of the World Tree. This crown enveloped the entire Asgard and was shaped like a large upside-down bowl.

Joel hung himself on a thick branch, staring directly at the abyss at the bottom of the World Tree.

In Norse mythology, Odin hung himself on a tree branch for nine days and nine nights, staring at Niflheim, and Joel wanted to follow his example.

The javelin Gangnir made from the branches of the World Tree pierced his side, and the blood dyed the gray-brown Gangnir red, and then fell to the surface.

"Odin, what are you doing!" A beautiful woman in luxurious palace clothes came over, followed by several maids, "Stop!"

Joel looked at her with his remaining left eye, and his brain automatically gathered information. This was Odin's wife, the queen of Norse mythology, Frigga, the god of sky and earth. Another interesting allusion is that Friday was her name.

The name evolved from.

Joel hurriedly skimmed through the information in his brain and learned that Frigga was good at everything, but her memory was very poor.

"No problem," he waved his hand and told the maids to step back, "I have my own intentions."

"You can't hurt your body, your eyes..." Frigga looked at her husband's empty right eye socket, and her heart twitched fiercely.

Joel didn't want Frigga to disturb his thinking, "Go and see Thor. I think he has been wandering around recently, and he probably has something on his mind."

"Thor..." A puzzled expression appeared on Frigga's beautiful face. She hesitated for a while, "Who is Thor?"

Joel: "..."

"Your son."

"Ah..." Frigga then remembered. Seeing that the expression on her husband's face was wrong, she argued a little aggrievedly, "I haven't seen him for several days. Isn't it reasonable that I can't remember?"

After saying that, she shook her sleeves and robe and left the crown of the World Tree with her maid.

Joel's eyes were fixed on Niflheim at the bottom of the World Tree. It was far away. He couldn't carefully observe the details of the Kingdom of Mist. From a high altitude, it was just a mist. Gangnir was extremely sharp, and the sides were very sharp.

The wound on his abdomen was deep and sharp, and the dull pain made Joel unable to concentrate.

Was it in this state that Odin created the runes without eating or drinking for nine days and nine nights?

It's so terrifying.

Joel calmed down and thought carefully, while his brain was searching for information about magic and spells.

Just as he thought, the three races of the nine kingdoms, the Asgard (Asgard), the Vanir (Warnerheim), and the Elf (Alfheim), have magical talents. They know that they contain magic within their bodies.

Some kind of special power, but they don't know how to scientifically and correctly guide these powers to play a more powerful role.

The Kingdom of Giants is extremely powerful and thick-skinned. Frost Giants and Fire Giants have each comprehended an elemental ability. Niflheim and Helm Underworld are good at using the undead to fight against the dead. Humans have more powerful means of territorial reclamation.

Cultural enlightenment and reproductive capabilities, there are also a rare number of wizards among them.

Runes…

Joel hung upside down in the tree, thinking about the past and present life of the runes.

In the magical world of later generations, the runes they studied were more theoretical. They translated ancient runic books to restore the daily life of wizards in ancient times. However, the practice of magic has nothing to do with runes. Now wizards

Most of the spells they use are composed of English, ancient Greek, Latin and other modern languages.

Why not use runes as the linguistic basis for modern spells?

One is because the runes were discontinued in the 12th century - Christianity was introduced to Northern Europe and became popular, and the runes were gradually lost in the long history. The existing runes are not complete; the other is because the runes were used for chanting spells.

Extremely difficult - since modern wizards do not use runes at all in their lives, other languages are easier for young wizards to learn.

This does not mean that the power of runes as the basis of spell language will decrease. In Joel's opinion, it may even become more powerful.

The crux of the problem is, how do these runes serve as carriers to carry magic spells?

Joel thought hard and watched the sun and moon alternate eight times, but he still didn't get the answer.

How did Odin create the runes?

Joel was puzzled.

The wound left by Gangnir on his body has not healed for a long time, and for eight days Joel felt that all the blood in his body was running out.

After the ischemia, his brain reaction became even more sluggish, his eyelids were as heavy as a heavy door, and he could no longer see Niflheim clearly under the World Tree.

Joel turned his stiff head and looked at the land beneath him.

He waved his arms, and the coagulated blood separated, forming 24 letters on the stone bricks. These were the runes learned by Joel and others in later generations.

He has seen the runes countless times in the past eight days, but he still can't find a connection point between the magic power and the runes.

His mental state was close to collapse, and he could not sleep for eight days and eight nights without any treatment for his injuries. Even if he was using Odin's body now, he could not withstand such abuse.

Suddenly, he saw the 24 runic letters on the stone bricks on the ground twisting, as if the waves were undulating.

Waves, twists...

Joel felt as if a window had been opened in his heart, and inspiration suddenly appeared in his mind.

The rune character "?" represents "ice". Of course, it has different meanings in different contexts. It can also be expressed as "hail" or "ice cone".

In this case...

Joel stretched out an index finger and pointed it at the rune character "?" on the ground. A stream of water poured down. Before it hit the characters made of blood, it was frozen into an ice cone by Joel's magic power.

The ice cone hit the rune character cleanly and neatly. At this moment, a cold force surged from the blood-red rune character and collided with the ice cone in mid-air. The two ice cone forces were evenly matched and met each other in a moment.

After the fight, it was shattered to pieces.

Joel laughed loudly, only now did he know the true meaning of runes.

For the runes to be most effective, the blood of the caster is needed.

He looked at Gangnir on his side. The branch of the World Tree had been completely soaked in the blood of Odin, and the brown branch was completely dyed blood red.

Joel pulled out the javelin with force and carved 24 runic characters on it. The branches of the World Tree were so hard that even Odin's power could only leave shallow marks on the javelin.

That was enough. Joel watched as the blood slowly soaked into the character, and the power contained in it was gradually lit up and awakened. Gangnir finally showed its strongest form.

Just by holding it, you can realize the infinite power.

A ray of light cut across the sky, a flame-like dazzling light swayed on the tip of the spear, the light was slightly red, and a golden chain extended from the tail of the spear, binding Joel's right arm, and then disappeared.

Joel looked at the spear in his hand with satisfaction. Before he could test its power, his eyes suddenly went dark, and he lost consciousness as the world spun around.
