Chapter 24. My Brother

The hill behind Difenni Village.

The mountains behind Difenni Village are actually just a concept, which means the mountains behind the small village of Difenni.

Countless creatures live in the vast mountain forests. Although humans do not live in the mountains but outside the mountains, their lives are closely related to the mountains.

Hunters rely on the fur and flesh of animals in the mountains to make a living, farmers rely on spring water from the mountains for irrigation of their fields, and carpenters and pharmacists look for silent but lively and eager vegetation in the mountains to support their families...

It can be said that for the village, the existence of the mountains may block the road, but it also gives them new ways of living, allowing them to find their own way out of life in the mountains.

However, the mountains do not exist to favor humans, and nature itself does not give preferential treatment to any race.

All life, including plants, insects and ants, can find their own way of survival in it.

But with the establishment of various living orders, conflicts are inevitable.

Competition between races is inevitable once conflicts arise;

Once there is competition, casualties are inevitable;

Once casualties occur, it will inevitably turn into a crisis.

Human beings can use the resources in the mountains to develop their own lives, but they must also be aware of the dangers in the mountains.

Of course, these are all things for later, what we want to see now is the story unfolding in the back mountains.

Remember that village urchin who was unfortunately caught by a wolf-headed man?

His name is Blaney, the son of the third brother of Jones, a carpenter in the village. He is slightly one year older than Jones' son Jack, and is Jack's cousin.

Although he and Jack often cause havoc in the village, in reality Blaney can only be regarded as an accomplice.

All the ideas basically come from his cousin Jack. Because Blainey is not a person with strong opinions, basically he will nod and agree to any plan proposed by Jack.

After Blainey entered the developmental stage, his height grew very quickly, and he was much taller than other children of his age.

In addition, he looks thin but is actually very muscular and very strong, and he soon becomes Bad Boy Jack's right-hand man.

They got into a lot of trouble in the village, such as bullying other people's children, stealing neighbors' eggs, or adding "seasonings" to the feed of cattle and horses...

In short, Blainey is not a good boy, and there are good reasons for even directly classifying him as a bad boy.

Because even if it wasn't Blainey's idea, he was still an accomplice after all.

Blainey's father is a hunter who lives in a village far away from Difenni Village.

He sent his son to live with his eldest brother and wanted Blainey to learn some carpentry skills.

After all, hunter is not a very good profession now. Even if an excellent hunter can earn 500 Osadins a year, it is quite remarkable. What's more, this does not guarantee that you will have such a good harvest next year.

.

Because hunting not only tests your skills as a hunter, but also tests your luck.

Will we encounter those high-value prey, or some ferocious beasts...

Or you may encounter nothing at all, it all depends on whether the goddess has turned her good-luck eyes towards you.

So compared to being a carpenter with good and stable income and no danger.

It's a big difference to be a hunter who could lose his arms or legs to something in the woods at any time, and who has to sleep in the open air every day.

Recently, Blaney and Jack finally paid the price for their daily pranks.

Because Jack planned to steal the flask used by the drunkard Jones to drink with Bryony. As a result, when they were implementing the plan, they unexpectedly encountered Jones who had returned from drinking.

So in panic, they accidentally smashed the wine flask that Jones bought for twenty Ossadines on the ground.

This was a good thing. In addition to receiving a severe beating, the two naughty guys were also punished with no breakfast for three days.

Hence the scene this morning.

They planned to grab bread from Lisa, a girl with little strength and fear of trouble, to satisfy their hunger, but the arrival of the girl in the white dress forced them to give up.

So they went to the mountains to dig out honeycombs and get some sweets to fill their stomachs.

Because of their bad reputation in the village, even if they complained to the villagers about their hunger, no one would sympathize with them. After all, they deserved it in every sense of the word.

So, they met the wolf-headed man...

"Jack! Run!"

Blaney grabbed Jack's arm and dragged him back.

"Kulevasusa (catch them!)!"

With a roar-like command, those "things" emerged from the shadows one after another.

"Run! Run!"

The two of them ran quickly, not knowing whether fear gave them strength.

They were running very fast at this moment, faster than ever! However, those huge shadows still shortened the distance with them at an astonishing speed.

"You must go back to the village and tell dad! Oh no! Tell the village chief directly!"

Jack gasped. He couldn't imagine that he still had extra energy to speak in this situation.

"They...are coming..."

Of course, Blaney wouldn't be able to run fast if he dragged Jack, and his cousin's health wasn't that good either. If there was a real race, Blaney would only win.

If Blaine left Jack behind now, he believed he could run out, but there was no doubt that Jack would be caught by those monsters.

"Jack, let's run separately."

Blaney grabbed Jack's collar and pushed him in the other direction.

Jack knew this road, and the road Blainey asked him to take was a shortcut to the village.

Just keep running forward and you will see a big tree hole.

There is a small cliff passing through. As long as you cross this cliff, you will reach a slope full of wild flowers. After passing it, you can see the village.

Because this road is too dangerous, ordinary people will not walk this road at all, not to mention that the tree hole is too narrow, even a slightly stronger adult cannot get through.

The two children, Jack and Blaney, had walked back and forth on that road in fear.

But this is indeed a shortcut. It takes half an hour to go down the mountain on a normal mountain road, but it only takes half an hour if you take this road.

Jack understood what Blainey meant, and he took advantage of the force of the push and immediately started running towards the shortcut.

After a while, the howls of those monsters got closer and closer to me, but the tree hole was also right in front of me.

Jack jumped forward quickly and his whole body fell into the tree hole. The broken leather shoe on his left foot was scraped off by the branches next to the tree hole.

The monsters also stuck their heads into the tree holes and stretched out their claws to catch him.

But Jack took a breath and slipped out from the other end of the tree hole, and those huge monsters couldn't get in at all.

On both sides of this hollow wood was a natural wall composed of lush thorn bushes and tall oak trees, which directly blocked the wolf-faced monsters from outside. They could only howl helplessly.

Jack made a face at the monsters that were no longer likely to catch up, and then jumped to the two-meter-high cliff, completely getting rid of them.

But just when he was thinking about how lucky he was to have escaped from a dangerous situation, he remembered that his cousin Blainey did not escape.

When Jack was pushed away, he looked back and realized that Blainey's push was not to lend him strength, but to help him avoid a monster that was charging towards him.

Blainey did not run separately as he said at the time, but after pushing him away, he took the place of Jack, who was supposed to be caught, and was pushed to the ground by the wolves.

There is such a moral:

One day when two hunters suddenly encountered a hungry saber-toothed tiger, they chose to run away. Because the nearly invulnerable saber-toothed tiger was not something that one or two people could handle, it was only wise to run away decisively.

But who can survive at this time?

The answer is that the one who runs faster will survive.

You don't need to run faster than a saber-toothed tiger, you just need to run faster than the guy next to you.

Blaney ran slower, so Jack had a chance to escape.

At the critical moment, Jack didn't think so much, he just wanted to save his life.

But running away left his clumsy cousin there forever.
