Chapter 46 Army Tradition III

The closer we get to the front line, the more intense the atmosphere of war becomes.

Marshal Lewis's defense line was centered on the capital of Yobosa, a series of defense lines composed of towns, forts, rivers and fortresses. The Western Front and the Belis fought repeatedly around these military locations connected like a chain of pearls.

Fight for.

Lewis assured the Holy City that his defenses were impregnable.

Facts seem to prove this. The Belis people did not have much to do against these military strongholds where a large number of soldiers and military supplies were gathered. Even if they occupied these military strongholds, they were quickly recaptured by the Western Front.

The thin military strength of the Belis people was undoubtedly exposed in this stalemate. Although they boasted that one Belis soldier could deal with three Europa soldiers. However, with the death of a large number of veterans, the combat effectiveness of the Belis army declined rapidly.

The arrival of the Genoese officer observation group did not attract much attention from Yobosa. Marshal Lewis's headquarters was located in the city.

It was relatively safe here because there was a series of forts guarding the city. Out of courtesy and respect, Major Woodley made a request to visit Marshal Lewis.

Major Sherman agreed to convey this request for him, but there was no guarantee that the marshal would be able to respond in time. Major Woodley expressed his understanding.

The Genoese station is an abandoned warehouse. Apart from the only advantage of being spacious, it is almost useless. It is full of garbage and rags. The Genoese people took it upon themselves to clean up the place. If there are no accidents, they will stay here for a month.

If this is not a show of force, then someone wants to deliberately embarrass them.

However, the Genoese officers worked hard for most of the day, and when Sherman came over in the evening, he thought he was in the wrong place.

The rubbish was cleared away and even the weeds in the yard were cleared.

The floor of the room was paved with broken bricks that were picked up, and it looked well-proportioned. Of course, people slept on a bunk bed, with straw mats spread on the bottom floor. There was a straw mat and a thin blanket for each person, and personal belongings were placed there.

The position behind the pillows is neatly arranged.

Even the originally empty windows were covered with a new layer of newspaper.

On the west wall is a handwritten internal regulation:

"If you are at the station, you will get up at 5:30 every morning, do group exercises at 5:40, have dinner at 7:00, and clean up the housework at 7:30.

Three members are responsible for all meals every day, rotating every five days, and the leading officer appoints a duty officer to inspect and supervise..."

"After dinner, the whole group will discuss and study, no matter the content. Go to bed on time at 9:30 pm."

"Personal housekeeping must be neat and orderly, and clothing must comply with military regulations."

"Everything must follow orders. Even when you are free to go out, you must seek instructions and approval in advance. You must not disturb civilians, and you must not take advantage of civilians. Otherwise, you will be punished by military law..."

Major Sherman brought some provisions, cooking utensils, and firewood.

"Sorry, Major Woodley, this is war time and the conditions here are rudimentary." Sherman apologized.

"These are enough." Woodley nodded, "Isn't that what fighting is like?"

"Having said that, but..." Sherman whispered, "If you want some special supplies, I can make the connection."

"For example?" Woodley asked curiously.

"Tobacco and alcohol, fresh fruits and meats, even women!" Sherman said.

"Woman?" Woodley had an incredulous expression on his face.

"This is human nature. Besides, there are more than 100,000 troops in the city, and many of them have been here for more than a year. There will always be people who have such needs." Sherman didn't take it seriously.

"Thank you. If we are in need, we will come to you, Major." Woodley said, "I don't know when the Marshal will be convenient for me to visit."

"I don't know about that. The marshal is very busy recently. Of course he commands hundreds of thousands of troops, which is related to the survival of the empire. I don't dare to arrange the work schedule for the marshal, so you can only wait. But please don't worry,

The marshal will definitely receive you, but he is too busy right now." Sherman said, "I suggest you take advantage of this time to familiarize yourself with the environment."

"Then please leave it to Major." Woodley had no choice but to do so. After all, they, the Genoese, were outsiders.

Looking at Sherman's leaving figure, Daniel said: "This is a guy who is also a broker and a pimp."

"Daniel, we just need to be aware of it," Woodley said. "If he were an officer of the National Army, I dare say he wouldn't survive three days."

"These are the officers of the elite army of the empire. They are not here to fight, but to make money." Daniel shrugged, "Obviously, this is also one of the traditions of the army. In his eyes, we may be those of the True God Cult.

The ascetics are a bunch of fools."

"Are you a fool?" Woodley laughed, "Daniel from Bern!"

"Major, you have met my father. He is a traditional nobleman, and I mean spiritually. He always taught us, the men of the Davis family, to be loyal, brave and dedicated, as well as to be patient.

, including food." Daniel said, "I used to think it was because our family was once very poor, so my father had to educate us in this way to prevent us from developing the habit of spending money lavishly."

"Well, the Davis family is very wealthy now, but that doesn't stop me from respecting your father." Woodley said, "By the way, what do you mean by this call?"

"What I mean is that the nobility of the nobility lies in the nobility of spirit and moral character, rather than external things such as titles and titles. There are many such fools in the National Army, me, you, and hundreds of others.

National Army officers, everyone is a spiritual noble." Daniel said seriously.

"Yes, we are all veterans of the National Army. Although I am only a major and you are just a little lieutenant. But if one day, the officers around us have the same virtues as this Major Sherman, I will be extremely disappointed.

"." Woodley said, "Therefore, we must strictly demand ourselves and never relax military discipline and self-cultivation of soldiers at any time. This is exactly what the commander has said since the establishment of the Civil Defense Force, why the army fights

issues, the purpose of military personnel and the issue of military moral cultivation."

"This country is rotten from top to bottom. It's rotten at the root." Daniel suddenly said.

Woodley said with some worry: "You can't say this nonsense, and it shouldn't even be said by a noble child like you."

"Major, don't worry, of course I won't say such things in front of others. But you think so in your heart, right?" Daniel said.

Woodley suddenly thought of his wife, who had been forced to live in prostitution. It was under the commander's awakening that Woodley abandoned his prejudices and married her back. Now she has given birth to two children for him.

This is a microcosm of the tragic experience of countless civilians. Obviously, his wife and himself are very lucky.
