Chapter 54: Editing Completed

"Then I will go directly to the theater!"

After being told this by Li Qian, Guo Fan resolutely decided to make his first movie directly to theaters.

Guo Fan graduated from Qionghai University Law School. Although it is not a famous school, it is still a 211 University.

After graduation, I did not become a lawyer in my profession. I worked on a music program on Travel TV, and then went north to work on several production crews.

I have never had a stable job, and I occasionally take part-time jobs in art.

He wasted three or four years pursuing his dream of becoming a director, but this does not mean that he does not desire success.

At the age of 27, it is the time to be energetic and start a career.

It's just that the experience of the past three or four years has made him more cautious.

Guo Fan's eyes were full of enthusiasm, "Yes, Director Li, you don't have to worry about paying for it, so what do I have to worry about!"

Li Qian smiled and said, "That's right. Don't be like an old man, grinding and grinding. If you fail, you'll have to start over."

"Besides, the movie "127 Hours" doesn't require much cost and is easy to shoot, so recovering the cost will definitely not be a problem."

Guo Fandao said, "Then I will start writing the script and storyboards after I finish editing "Jaws". Then Director Li will help me take a look."

"No problem. When "Jaws" is released, I am not busy with other things. I have to take a few days to rest and relax."

Li Qian nodded, looked at Qi Yukun again, and said with a smile, "By the way, Lao Qi, are you interested in filming a sequel to "Jaws" next year?"

Qi Yukun was slightly startled when he heard this. Just now, he was envious that Guo Fan finally had the opportunity to direct alone. He didn't expect that it would be his turn so soon.

Seeing that Li Qian didn't look like he was joking, Qi Yukun nodded quickly, "Yes, of course, I will have no problem leaving the sequel to me."

Although I don’t know how to make a sequel, but I can be a director, so I don’t care about that, so I’ll agree to it first.

Guo Fan asked curiously, "'Jaws' is going to be a sequel? Will it be made into a series?"

"Let's film the second part first."

Li Qian shook his head, "If you shoot the same routine too many times, the audience won't buy it. There's no need to make multiple sequels to make money unless it's absolutely necessary."

Any series will inevitably become worse and worse. It’s not like he is unable to make other movies. There is no need for Li Qian to rely on this series to make money.

The second part of "Jaws" was filmed by Qi Yukun, and Li Qian was not worried. Originally, he was involved in the whole process of the movie, and he also led the crew on the set.

Li Qian just sits behind the monitor most of the time, and sometimes doesn't pay attention to the filming scene for the whole day.

Sitting in front of the monitor for a whole day, it was Qi Yukun who really directed the crew and actors.

A qualified executive director is actually just a little bit less creative than a director.

The routine of "Jaws" is like that, there is nothing new, Qi Yukun should be fine, besides, Li Qian left a suspense at the end of the film, which is perfect for the sequel.

"Should our sequel also be released in theaters?" Qi Yukun asked with some anticipation.

"Of course it's in theaters."

Li Qian smiled and said, "We will have three theatrical movies next year. We should have a place in the Chinese film market next year!"

"Brother Cheng Kai is dying. He only cares about enjoying himself. Zhang Yimou is busy with the Olympics."

"Wu Yusen, who came back from Hollywood, still has to rely on Zhang Meijian to make the blockbuster "Red Cliff" a success."

"Ma Xiaogang is unwilling to just make comedies. He keeps trying new themes to prove himself, but sooner or later he will fail."

"Most of the directors in Hong Kong are not accustomed to the local environment, and Hong Kong films have gradually declined."

"In the future, the Chinese film industry will still be dominated by mainland filmmakers, including us."

"The marketization of domestic films has only been a few years, and we will definitely have a place in the history of Chinese films in the future!"

Li Qian suddenly started talking at length, leaving Qi Yukun and Guo Fan confused.

"Director Li?"

Li Qian smiled and said, "Why, do you think I'm bragging?"

The two looked at each other, not knowing what to say.

"Forget it, let's not talk about this and get ready to work."

Li Qian shook his head. Although he didn't know who made the movie in his mind, there weren't many Hong Kong movies of good quality. The decline of Hong Kong movies seemed inevitable.

There is a film called "Private Customization", and Li Qian can tell at a glance that it is Ma Xiaogang's film.

The starring role of Ge You is somewhat similar to his "Party A and Party B" back then, so we can basically confirm that this is Ma Xiaogang's next film.

To allow Ma Xiaogang, who has stopped making comedies, to overthrow him, he must have experienced huge losses and is probably about to go bankrupt.

Brother Chen Kai is dying, Ma Xiaogang has also quit, and Zhang Yimou doesn't know that two of the three major directors have quit. It is estimated that a group of young directors will take over.

Li Qian is confident that he will have his own place among them

After chatting, the editing started.

The first rough cut has been completed, and the second cut is the re-cut.

Double cutting means making corrections on the basis of rough cutting, and it is not a cumbersome matter.

The combination of shots must be coherent and smooth. In addition to ensuring the continuity of the shots, the boundaries of the paragraphs must be clearly defined so that the audience will not mistake content at different times and locations as the same scene.

As for how to edit different shots, whether it is jump cuts, off-cuts, cross cuts, jump cuts, the scenes are different and the things that need to be expressed are different, so it is your choice.

The main thing is the third pass of fine editing. As for the fourth pass of comprehensive editing, it’s just an overall re-adjustment.

The re-cutting took a day and a half, and the fine cutting started on the afternoon of the next day.

The beginning is from the perspective of a great white shark on the bottom of the sea.

It's very dark here, and I can't see clearly where I am, and then there's a panning shot of a group of people camping together.

Then the camera stopped on a boy, a medium shot, he was looking at something forward.

Cut to the past and a girl is smiling at him. Cut back to see a boy smiling too. The opportunity has come.

The girl glanced around and used the girl's subjective perspective to create a relationship shot, explaining that the group of people were camping at the beach in the evening.

When a boy goes over to flirt with a girl, it doesn't matter what he says.

This composition is very peaceful and warm, with sea breeze, bonfire, wine, affection and love, and everyone is in happiness.

Everything looked beautiful, but it was in sharp contrast to the murder of the girl that followed.

Contrast is also a very important factor in editing

Li Qian spent four days in the studio to complete the fine editing of "Jaws". Including the previous two days, it took six days.

For the final comprehensive editing, I watched the film several times to see if there were any areas that needed to be adjusted as a whole. It took another day and a half to complete the final editing process.

In seven and a half days, on June 24, the editing of "Jaws" was successfully completed.

As for the special effects, they were also completed two days ago and have already been edited.

The next step is dubbing, soundtrack, and the movie can be logged into the video website.
