CHAPTER XXIII Baron Rothschild's Invitation

Just as Tailan was sorting out the belongings left by Prince Louis and cleaning the debris on the carpet, a crisp knock on the door came from the main hall to the corridor on the second floor.

After hearing the knock on the door, Tailan handed over the cleaning work to the maid, then went downstairs alone and held the handrail to open the door.

The door of the mansion opened, and an old man with an old face, white hair, and unsmiling appearance appeared at the door of Bonaparte's mansion. He was wearing a short pleated French dress, a bright black cotton-padded vest top, and a long black trousers.

trousers, and holding a brown-gray cane in his hand.

"Who are you?" Tailan looked at the guy in front of him carefully. In his memory, Prince Louis' friends were either young and energetic guys, or retired soldiers, but there were never old people.

Could it be that the guy in front of me is a friend of Prince Jérôme?

"Is this the residence of Prince Louis?" the old man asked Tailan politely, with a butler-like smile on his face.

"That's right! This is the home of Prince Louis!" After Tailan nodded, he added sadly: "However, Prince Louis is no longer here! Now Prince Jérôme is in charge of the mansion!"

The old man showed a regretful expression and said: "Please allow me to express regret on behalf of my master for the departure of Prince Louis! It is really a sad thing for a man as courageous and upright as Prince Louis to return to the embrace of God!"

"Yes!" Tailan quickly nodded in agreement with the old man's statement and asked again: "Who is your master from Britain?"

The old man's expression changed from regretful to serious. He carefully considered his words and said, "My master is Baron Lionel Rothschild!"

"Lionel Rothschild!" Tailan's expression changed drastically.

He was very familiar with this name. He was the actual helmsman of the branch of Rothschild Bank in the United Kingdom. [The Rothschild family has three major branches in Europe, one in Britain, one in France, and

One is located in Frankfurt.] It is also Louis Napoleon's largest creditor.

After the death of his father, the former King of the Netherlands, Louis Napoleon, he sold the property of Louis Napoleon and barely made up for the previous deficit. Then he borrowed 600,000 francs from the Rothschild Bank in Britain using Napoleon memorabilia as collateral.

"What's the matter with the Rothschild family? Prince Louis has left!" Tailan asked in a bad tone as he thought that the Rothschild family might come to collect debts.

The old man obviously heard the unkindness in Tailan's words, but as a servant of a banker, how could he choose to shut up because his creditor was in a bad mood? The old man continued: "My master, Baron Rothschild, did not

Otherwise, he just wants to invite Prince Jérôme to visit the Baron's mansion! If His Excellency the Prince has time!"

After that, the old man took out a big red invitation letter with the Rothschild mark and handed it to Tailan and warned: "Please be sure to give this to Prince Jerome!"

Tailan, who received the invitation letter, did not read the contents inside, but nodded and responded: "I will forward the invitation letter to Prince Jerome!"

The old man showed a satisfied smile and left in the carriage.

Looking at the invitation in her hand, Tailan sighed and placed it on the living room table in the main hall.

About 20 minutes later, Pesini and Jérôme took a carriage back to the mansion.

Tyran quickly stood up to greet him and informed Jérôme of the arrival of the butler Lionel Rothschild.

"Rothschild family?" Jérôme Bonaparte, who was sitting on the sofa and leaning forward slightly, stared at the big red invitation on the guest table. He couldn't figure out why the Rothschilds needed it.

Invite him to the mansion.

If it was just a matter of collecting debts, there would be no need to invite Jérôme over in such a "war-like" manner.

A debt of 600,000 francs was really not worth Lionel Rothschild's own hands.

According to the shareholdings of later generations, the Rothschild family's property during this period totaled more than 90 million francs. This was only the resources that the Rothschild family could use.

What bankers are best at is using their own principal as a crowbar to win over some individuals with similar economic strength or some retail investors to increase their holdings or short-sell the bonds of a certain country.

Rothschild alone is not scary, what is scary is the allies united around the Rothschild family and the retail investors deposited in Rothschild banks.

Just like the financial turmoil caused by Soros throughout Southeast Asia at the end of the 20th century, what bankers during this period were best at was "taking over" for the government.

Of course, the premise of this "takeover" is that the government can bring them enough benefits.

"Why do you think Lionel Rothschild wants to see me?" Jerome Bonaparte turned to ask several Bonapartist disciples present.

"When Prince Louis and I met this person, the head of Rothschild, he was not a kind person!" Pesini frowned, and Lionel Rothschild's appearance was obviously not there either.

As expected by Pesini.

"How about we refuse?" Fleury suggested: "It's just an invitation. It's up to us whether we go or not!"

"This is not just a matter of an invitation letter. Fleury, you should start thinking about it!" Pesini said with hatred.

"Then what do you think it should be?" Fleury, who was a little unhappy because of Louis Napoleon's death, retorted.

Seeing that the whole room was about to be filled with the smell of gunpowder, Jérôme Bonaparte quickly stopped the topic. He was afraid that if the discussion continued like this, the entire Bonapartist party would fall apart.

"Okay! Pesini, Fleury, no matter what we say, it won't help! If the other party really has evil intentions, no matter how hard we struggle, it won't help!" Jerome Bonaparte spread his hands and said helplessly

: "After all, the current situation is stronger than the people, and we cannot resist! Of course, I believe that Baron Lionel Rothschild would not do such a thing! If he really does it..."

Jerome Bonaparte paused, and said with a hint of cruelty in his eyes: "Then he will prepare to fight to the death with the Bonaparte family! I will completely eradicate this "cancer" in Europe in my lifetime! Europe is not

Jewish Europe, how can we allow a Jew to ride on the head of Europe!"

In the 19th century, Europe was still in the midst of a wave of anti-Semitism, let alone the turbulent era of 1848.

The death of one or two Jewish bankers was apparently not uncommon.
