Chapter 1719 Procrastination

PreviousBack to directoryNext
At the end of April, spring plowing in the north is coming to an end.

Just as the imperial examination in Beijing was about to begin, the third fleet returned to Donglai.

The people transported back this time are all Goguryeo people, about 70,000 to 80,000 people, all young and middle-aged men and women. As long as they are transported like this two or three times, the essence of Goguryeo will be gone, and there is no need to hope for the restoration of the country.

Subjugation of the country and annihilation of the species is nothing more than that.

Judging from the current situation, the date for the army's reorganization will be postponed much further.

Li Jingzheng took advantage of the spring flowers to bloom and the weather to get warmer. He stepped up his search for everything in Goguryeo and shipped it back to Datang.

Someone in the court wrote a letter and wanted to urge Li Jing to lead the army, but Li Po suppressed it. He believed that it would be a good thing to do more detailed finishing work on the peninsula.

However, the thoughts of some people in the court are understandable. Li Jing has made great contributions. Even if you are the emperor's father-in-law, you can't take all the credit, right? What's wrong with leaving some for others?

They felt that Li Jing's delay in returning was, at best, coveting military glory, and at worst, clinging to military power. Even the head of the state should be wary.

Precisely because Li Jing was the head of the country, everyone spoke more restrainedly. If it were someone else, that might not be the case, and the wording of the letter would be even more intense.

These are understandable, so Li Po just suppressed these suggestions and did not apologize.

When talking to several important ministers about this matter, Li Po explained to them that if he wanted to completely disintegrate Goguryeo, he must do a good job in dealing with the aftermath.

Li Jing was the right choice to lead the army to pacify Goguryeo. With him on the peninsula, things will go more smoothly and things will be done more completely and comprehensively.

Therefore, after discussion, the date for the army's formation was immediately changed to the autumn of the seventh year of Yuanzhen's reign, which would be in July at the earliest and August or September at the latest, giving Li Jing a few more months.

The position of the Governor of the East China Sea Protectorate was finally settled. After a year or two of delay, Liu Rengui finally won the bid and became the first Governor of the East China Sea.

Li Nian was the Protector of Korea.

The two protective palaces allowed the Tang Dynasty to expand its sphere of influence to the entire East China Sea. The next thing to do was to include Ryukyu and the islands in the south.

Because Ryukyu sent envoys to the Tang Dynasty, asking to become a vassal state.

The first request made by the Tang Dynasty was to station troops in Ryukyu so that the King of Ryukyu could pay his respects as soon as possible.

There is also the need to ask Ryukyu for the Japanese who fled to Ryukyu. As a vote of surrender, Ryukyu must hand them over to the Tang Dynasty. Otherwise, nothing can be done and they can only fight against each other.

Ryukyu actually has no choice, either do it or fight with Datang. The result is obvious, so this is not a multiple-choice question.

The final analysis is that the Ryukyus came too late. The Tang Dynasty had already destroyed the Japanese and Goguryeo countries, and it would not take much effort to free up the Ryukyus to destroy the Ryukyus.

…………

The Goguryeo people who were transported back came at a good time. The infrastructure construction of the Tang Dynasty was getting better. There was a lot of barren land, and there was a silver mountain on the East China Sea waiting to be mined.

Anyway, there is no need to worry about having no work to do.

Moreover, with the disaster of the Five Husbands destroying China, the Tang Dynasty will no longer give good treatment to outsiders. How many Goguryeo people will be left in the Central Plains in the end depends on God's will.

…………

At the end of April, a message came back from Shannan that the Supi people had arrived home. Some of the envoys from the Tang Dynasty stayed in Supi, some followed them to the Black Yak Tribe, and some went to Xiangxiong.

Most of these people went to discuss trade and other matters with the Three Kingdoms of Shannan, and to read the imperial edict of His Majesty the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty in person.

Xuanzang and his party followed the Xiangxiong people. Xuanzang suffered some hardships and the altitude sickness was still relatively strong. However, people with faith support are always more tolerant than others, so it should not be a big problem.

People from the Three Kingdoms of Shannan will hand over some documents they have collected in monasteries, noble houses and other places to the Tang Dynasty this year. This is a condition proposed by the Tang Dynasty, and they have obtained their commitment.

By then, the Guanwen Hall of the Tang Dynasty will be richer. If these things brought back are not destroyed by war and corrosion over time, they can be used as historical research more than a thousand years later.

The Tibetan writings were transmitted to Tianzhu. They had no paper and no parchments. They were all engraved on gold and stone, and most of them were wooden tablets.

This is the process of civilization that conforms to the laws of history. The clay tablets and the parchment scrolls that record millions of words are really wonders of nature. We must praise people's imagination.

The Tibetan writing system had already formed a system during the time of Langri Lunzan, and it was mainly based on changes made on the basis of Tianzhu writing. If they were allowed to develop on their own, it might take many years for a mature writing to appear.

Will never appear.

Xuanzang and his party are expected to stay in Xiangxiong for a year, waiting for the ice and snow to melt next year before setting off for Tianzhu.

There was no other way. After walking to the south of the mountain, the group was exhausted. If they forced themselves over the mountains again, Xuanzang might die on the way.

No matter how young he is, no matter how religious he is, he has not yet become a Buddha. Even if he has the blessing of Buddha's light, the people who go to Tianzhu with him are not some gods and monsters like the Stone Monkey, the Curtain General, or the Tianpeng Marshal.

This is a trip that will last ten years. If only one of them can come back, it is a victory. If you don’t look at those Tianzhu monks, won’t you be able to go back to the Central Plains?

The Buddha didn't care whether his followers would die on the road. It was a test of their piety, just like the legendary ninety-nine and eighty tribulations.

If you survive, that is the blessing of the Buddha. If you fail to survive, it is because you are not pious enough and it is your own problem. Religious thinking is roughly the same. It is a philosophical argument system full of loopholes, but it can be justified by believers.

Needless to say, there are pros and cons of religion. The monks from Tianzhu came to the Central Plains to preach. It was a very pious religious act. But after seeing the colorful world of the Central Plains, the monks from Tianzhu will still remember the barbaric land of the South Asian subcontinent that was still in the era of slash-and-burn farming.

?

So even if they were given a chance, they would never go back. However, the monks who had taken refuge under the Buddha in the Central Plains were all thinking about the beauty of Tianzhu, and they always wanted to see the Buddha's hometown to see if there would be any separation there.

Is the Western Paradise closer?

Foreign monks like to chant sutras. This sentence probably comes from this kind of siege mentality.

…………

Of course, what Li Po was thinking about was not the true scriptures. What Xuanzang brought with him on his westward journey was actually a political mission assigned by him, and it did not deserve too much attention.

He still feels that it is more reliable to go to the South Asian subcontinent by sea. The Central Plains has always lacked overseas colonial ideas. He is willing to devote his energy to instilling some, but only God knows the effect.

The South Asian subcontinent has fertile land, many plains, few mountains and rivers, and a mild climate, which is suitable for human survival. The indigenous peoples are also fragmented and have never been unified. It is a very good goal.
